Carol Halladay Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home on Mar. 1, 2026.
Carol Ann Halladay, 66, of Suffield, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, February 27, 2026. She was born September 14, 1959 in Winchester, CT daughter of the late Vernon and Kathleen (Coro) Busick. Raised in Enfield, CT, Carol graduated from Enfield High School in 1978. Through her life, she worked as a school bus driver, tobacco worker, and an order picker, but ultimately transitioned to the most important career of her life: stay-at-home mother.

In fact, she was often known as "Mother to a Million Children." Though survived by Mark Halladay of Suffield, Brandy Laboda of Enfield, Douglas Halladay Jr and his wife, Elizabeth of Suffield, her children would say Carol never turned away a stray child or animal.

Carol's home was a place of refuge for all that knew her. Carol adopted countless dogs, cats, horses and wild animals. She cared for dozens of family and neighborhood children over her lifetime. She was an open door and listening ear to anyone that needed it.

Carol's world centered around her home and loved ones, especially her seven grandchildren, Cody, Gillien, Alex, Josh, Douglas, Nikolai, Isabelle. Carol cared for her grandchildren until they reached school age, where then their weekends were filled with sleepovers, scavenger hunts, puzzles, and holiday parties.

Her love was constant, generous, and fierce. Though she is deeply missed, her spirit endures in every tradition carried forward, every story retold, and every act of care inspired by her example. Though her passing leaves an immeasurable void, her love, traditions, and memories will continue to live on in the many lives she touched.

Her family will receive friends on Sunday, March 8, 2026 from 1-4 pm at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home, 443 East St. N. (Rt. 159), Suffield. A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 9, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Nicholson & Carmon Funeral Home followed by burial in St. Patrick Cemetery, Enfield.
