Beloved mother, sister, aunt, great aunt, and friend passed away on June 5, 2023, at the age of 77 years. The daughter of the late Robert Vanderburg and late Marcelyn (LaFleur) Vanderburg was born on March 21, 1946, in Saginaw, Michigan. She graduated from St. Andrew High School, the class of 1964. She married Gene Hummel on November 2, 2013. He survives her. Carol spent her working years as an executive assistant in California, retiring from Palm Springs before returning to Michigan after 40 years. The most important role of her life was as the mother to Alicia Weiss, born January 4, 1985. In her free time, she was an amazing cook and baker, and was the party host. She had a flair for interior decorating and design, and was an avid shopper. She stayed active, enjoying her time spent riding her bike or as a member of the Saginaw YMCA. Carol is remembered as being vivacious, glamorous, and the life of the party. She was the embodiment of life and had the most electric smile you’d ever see.
Surviving is her husband, Gene Hummel; daughter Alicia Weiss; nieces and nephews Mark (Ruth) Ray, Laurie (Mark) Ray-Magnus, Shari (Richard) Wasney, and Brian (Tami) Vanderburg; great nieces Taylor (Marcos) Perez and Lauren Wasney; sisters-in-law Betty Vanderburg and Jan Richter; brother-in-law Ray (Maureen) Hummel; cousins Ruth Ann Lorenzo, Lanny Call, Joseph Call, and Thomas Call; and step-son Richard (Jenny) Hummel.
She was predeceased by her siblings, Eugene Vanderburg, Donald Vanderburg, and Jo Jean Ray; and aunt and uncle Nell Jean and Thomas Call.
Memorial service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 10, 2023, at W. L. Case and Company, 201 N. Miller Road, with burial in St. Andrew Cemetery. Rev. Fr. Steve Gavit will officiate.
