On Saturday, June 29, 2024, Carol Long departed from her earthly life at the age of 79, in Greenville, TX. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, July 9th at 1:00 p.m. at Tankersley Funeral Home, 807 Columbia, Stamford, TX. Burial will follow in Rockdale Cemetery under the direction of Tankersley Funeral Home.
Carol Sue Long was born August 2, 1944, in Stamford, TX to Wallace and Naomi (Evetts) McCown. Carol was a 1962 graduate of Stamford High School and continued her education at Abilene Christian University. Carol left Stamford following graduating, but her heart still belonged to her hometown as she longed to return home. She was a true-blue long-distance Stamford Bulldog fan tuning in by radio on Friday nights to listen to the football games.
Carol was married to Ray Allen Long for 36 years and resided in Garland for a very short time. She then settled in Greenville and has lived there ever since. Carol and Ray Allen's union was richly blessed by the addition of their three sons: Jason, Josh and Jared.
Lovingly known to her family as "Sudie", she took pleasure in the simple things in life. First and foremost, taking care of her three boys and family was so important to Sue. Sue could brighten up a room with her outgoing personality and great sense of humor. She attracted many people to gather around and listen to her lavish stories she would tell. She added to those stories each time she told them, making the stories sound bigger and better. She loved the springtime where she could till the soil for gardening. She loved, nurtured, and looked after her grand dogs: Little Man, Jager, Franco, and Stinker. Her favorite holiday was Halloween. She was a melomaniac and loved going country western dancing. As a sports fan, she followed the Dallas Cowboys and the University of Texas Longhorns.
Carol was employed by Hunt Collin Electric Cooperative, Raytheon, and Presbyterian Hospital of Greenville throughout her working career.
She was preceded by her parents, Wallace and Naomi McCown, her sister, Martha Kuenstler, and a brother-in-law, Justin Dodd.
Carol is lovingly survived by her three sons: Jason Long and Josh Long both of Greenville, TX and Jared Long of St. Jo, TX; a sister, Jan Dodd of Justin, TX; brother-in-law, Roddy Kuenstler of Stamford, TX; two nieces, Melanie White Hardcastle and Shelly White; nephews, Tracy Kuenstler (Jewellee) and Ky Kuenstler (Leslie); a special cousin, Toni Krecek and a host of other relatives and friends.
Memorials may be made to the Rockdale Cemetery Fund % Joan Hager at 1213 East Wells, Stamford, Texas 79553.
