Dennis Odle passed away in Kerrville, Texas on Monday August 18, 2025. He was 95 years old and was born on Sept. 30, 1929 to Charles Guy Odle and Callie Jane McEwin in Crowell, TX. His parents preceded him in death along with his brothers Leon Odle and Lewis Odle and his sisters Zelma Odle and Thelma Odle Kemplin. Also preceding him in death were his wife Ann Stewart Odle, wife Dorothy Lewis Hames Odle, son Kevin Hames, granddaughter Lindsay Williamson. He is survived by one sister, Mary Odle Harris of Abilene, Texas Four sisters-in-law Twyla Decker Odle of Kerrville, Texas Elaine Stewart Daniels of Abilene, Texas Earlene Lewis Carlton of Mabank, Texas Margie Lewis Spears of Austin, Arkansas Five children: James Odle (Nancy) of Little Rock, Arkansas Jeanne Odle Atkinson of Harker Heights, Texas Landon Odle (Bonna) of Kerrville, Texas Douglas Odle of Austin, Texas Holli Hames of Gun Barrel City, Texas Nine grandchildren and Six great-grandchildren and One great-great-grandchild A lifelong member of the Church of Christ he was baptized on July 30, 1942. Dennis attended Whitesboro High School, graduating in 1947. He attended Abilene Christian College earning a BS degree in Education in1951. In Abilene he met Ann Stewart and married on Mar. 11,1950. During the Korean War in 1951 he enlisted in the Army. He and Ann moved to Fort Leonard Wood outside of Rolla, Mo. He ended his service as a Staff Seargent. After the Army, he taught high school history in Rolla. Dennis went back to Abilene Chrisitan and earned his Master's Degree in 1958. In 1959 he took a job with the Harris County board of Education and moved to Crosby, TX. In 1960 Dennis took a job as the elementary school Principal for the Sheldon ISD where he worked for 25 years. The family joined the Shaw Street Church of Christ in Pasadena where they lived and Dennis was appointed as a Deacon. To be closer to work, in 1961 Dennis had a home built in the Woodforest subdivision in the Northshore neighborhood of Houston.. In 1970 Dennis married Dorothy Lewis, Dorothy died in 2016. Dennis retired in 1985. He loved baseball! He went to all the cities with major league ball teams and attended games at all the stadiums in the country. He went to the Astros' 2017 World Series home games. He loved to play golf and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Dennis moved to Kerrville at the Juniper Nursing Home in 2021 to be closer to Lanny and Bonna. His health declined in 2025 and on July 9 Dennis was diagnosed with lung cancer. The children agreed with him and the doctor that at his age and condition, he would not survive any intervention. On Sunday night/Monday morning Aug.11 Dennis had a serious health event. He fell and was on the floor most of the night. On Monday he was moved to River Hill nursing home for full time hospice care. Dennis died on Monday, August 18, 2025. On Friday, Sept.26 a small graveside service and interment for the family is planned where Dorothy is buried at the San Jacinto Funeral Home and; Memorial Park, 14659 East Freeway,
Houston, Texas. On Saturday Sept. 27 a memorial service will be held in Kerrville at Riverside Church of Christ. At 11:30 AM there will be a luncheon followed by a memorial service at 1 PM and then by a reception at 3. The family asks memorials be made to the Hill Country Flood Relief Fund or the Zelma Odle Memorial Fundc/o Abilene Christian University.
