Carol Low Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 4, 2013.
Carol was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada on July 1947. She attended Isaac Brock Grade School, Silver Heights Collegiate (junior high) School 9th and 10th grades, where she met her lifelong friends Mona and Georgina. She graduated from St. James Collegiate High School in 1965. Here she met her other lifelong friends, Marilyn and Noreen. They all received certifications for bookkeeping. The girl's friendship carried on well beyond high school. They had numerous parties and went to dances on Friday and Saturday nights, mostly at Isaac Brock Community Centre (which were the best). All had jobs after school, and Carol worked at a drugstore reconciling the receipts and ledger books, as she was very fast at using a 10-key adding machine. Carol attended First Baptist Church much of her young life through high school. She was remarkable at reciting bible passages and poems verbatim. As a child, her family visited relatives' farms where she rode horses and played with other animals. She loved ice skating and riding toboggans. She enjoyed attending the school dances and frequented the beaches on Lake Winnipeg. Carol and her girlfriends enjoyed the sport of curling and together won a trophy. Early on she loved the Beatles, and later in life Western music. Carol married Dennis Low in June 1967. Their children Jeff and Heather were born in Winnipeg. Carol and Dennis were transferred by his insurance company to Beaverton, Oregon in 1973, where Carol became a homemaker, and raised her children. She divorced in 1974. Carol became employed as an assistant to the financial director at Kentrox, a telecom manufacturer of telephone and data equipment. Carol and her significant other, Greg Toye, met in 1982, formed a loving relationship and were together for 32 years. They combined families with his sons Brian and Christopher. Sports, boating, skiing, traveling, camping, and a focus on their children's education made for a wonderful time. She and Greg formed their own business, Accurate Electronics Inc., in 1983. Carol was Vice President of Finance and Purchasing, in which she excelled. She leaves this company as a successful legacy. In her spare time, she enjoyed traveling to places such as the Caribbean Islands, Hawaii, Mexico, Canada, New York, and Florida. She enjoyed cooking, reading, bird watching (those darned squirrels), gardening, and spending time with her children and grandchildren. Carol was a very generous person who made many charitable contributions to children and those in need, including St.Judes, local food charities, Dove Lewis Veterinary Hospital, Humane Society, and Donate Life Northwest. Carol was a fun person to be around, and while she could be very blunt in her opinions, she had a twinkle in her eye and an infectious little laugh that "mostly" took the edge off. Her magnetic personality was envious, her phenomenal memory desirous, and her shining enthusiasm for life, admirable. She was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. Carol is preceded in death by her father Robert, mother Margaret and sister Valerie. She is survived by Greg, son Jeff, daughter Heather, and grandchildren Ian, Curtis, and Claire. The Memorial service will be held at 1:00pm on December 14th, 2013 at Finley-Sunset Hills Mortuary. Minister Ken Wooten will be officiating. In lieu of flowers and donations, the family asks that you donate unwrapped toys to your local fire department or other local donation center.
