Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend, Carol Jeanne Markland, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at Ogden Regional Medical Center in Ogden, UT with her family at her side.
Carol was born in Los Angeles, California, to Robert and Sybol Regina Runkle McGaughey. She was raised and attended elementary school in Gillette, Wyoming. She then attended Morgan Junior High School and Natrona High School in Casper, Wyoming.
She married the love of her life, Philip, on December 23, 1959, in Casper, Wyoming. They were later sealed in the Salt Lake City Temple for time and all eternity on August 8, 1960. They were married for 63 wonderful years. In the first 7 years of their marriage, Carol and Phil traveled the world together as he served our country in the U.S. Air Force.
Carol was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in all the auxiliaries of the church, including as Primary President, Relief Society Secretary, Young Women's Presidency, and Sunday School Teacher. She was also a very dedicated Visiting Teacher. She was the Junior Sunday School Coordinator, Activity Day Leader, and Emergency Preparedness Leader. Her most cherished callings, however, were serving as a Temple Worker in The Jordan River and Brigham City Temples and as Stake Missionary alongside her husband, Phil.
She worked as an Interior Designer at Designers Resource and worked at Beehive Clothing.
Carol was involved in a Quilting Guild, Gardening Club and enjoyed gardening, sewing, canning, crafts, quilting, and was an avid reader. She loved to learn and was self-taught in many things and shared that knowledge with others. She loved doing genealogy and family history work. She was beautiful, kind, loving, and a gentle soul.
The family would like to give a special thanks to her daughter Dee Bulkley, son-in-law Ken, son Ron and daughter-in-law Jody and special neighbors for their many hours of service and love and care given to Carol.
Carol is survived by her sweet husband: Phil; children: Vance Markland, Brian Markland (Heidi), Ronald Markland (Jody), Dee Bulkley (Ken), and Debbi Marquez (Joe); brother: Curtis Hermann (Nancy); 16 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter Annette and brothers: Charles, Dale and Don.
