Carol Martin Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 15, 2025.
Carol Ann (Degener) Martin, age 79, of Gilman, WI, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Thursday, September 4, 2025. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to John J. Degener Sr. and Irene F. (Filo) Degener. Carol resided in Gilman, WI (formerly of Salem, WI). She attended Moniteau Senior High School, West Sunbury, PA, and Mary D. Bradford High School, Kenosha, WI. She graduated from UW-Milwaukee with a bachelor's degree in nursing.

Carol was a registered nurse (RN) for more than 25 years, devoted to patient care. She began her nursing career on the OB floor at Burlington Hospital in Burlington, WI, and retired as the clinical care coordinator at Wynwood (Brookdale) Senior Living Center in Pleasant Prairie, WI.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, John J. Degener Sr.; her brother, Kenneth J. Harding Jr.; her stepfather, Kenneth Harding Sr.; and her mother, Irene (Filo) Harding.

She is survived by her husband of 39 years, Steven J. Martin; two brothers, John (Pam) Degener and Thomas (Beverly) Degener; six children, Colleen (Alan) Zenner, Shawn (Renee) Dickey, Shannon Sullivan (Mark Robers), Briana (Andres) Lopez, Kevin Dickey, and Nicholas (Sarah) Martin; ten grandchildren, Lauren (Ethan) O'Dell, Zachary Zenner, Gabrielle (Brian) Dickman, Lindsey (Darron) Nicholson, Gillian Miller, Mason Sullivan, Zoe Zenner, Lucas Sullivan, Paige Sullivan, and Graycen Lopez; and three great-grandchildren, Carter, Theo, and Jordie.

Per Carol's request, there will not be a memorial service. She chose to have a celebration of her life with loved ones before her passing and was honored with a living tribute by the Nurses Honor Guard for her service in nursing. Please remember Carol in other ways, such as her love of flowers and birds, cheering on her favorite sports teams, trying new recipes, and traveling when she had the chance. She will be missed and never forgotten by many.

Donations may be sent in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
