Carol Jean Mayer, 74, of South Bend, Indiana passed away peacefully with her family by her side at 11:00 pm on Wednesday, November 24, 2021 in her home. Carol Jean was born on November 28, 1946 in LaPorte, Indiana to Leo and Anne Marie (Ostroski) Fabrowicz. She graduated from LaPorte High School in 1965. On April 15, 1967 in LaPorte, Indiana, she married her high school sweetheart, Michael J. Mayer, who survives. Carol Jean is also survived by her two daughters, Cynthia (Christopher) Dazell and Deborah Mayer both of South Bend, Indiana; her son, Jeffrey Mayer of South Bend, Indiana; two brothers; James (Andrea) Fabrowicz and Richard Fabrowicz both of LaPorte, Indiana; and her sister-in-law and dear friend, Sherry (Janice) Mayer of Gosport, Indiana. Carol Jean is also survived by three nieces, one nephew and several great nieces and nephews.
Carol Jean was such a devoted wife and mother who loved her family unconditionally. Her caring, sweet, fun and loving personality always brought tremendous joy to others who held her so dear. She was our sweet earth angel.
After Carol Jean raised her children, she became a teacher and worked at Lydick Preschool in South Bend for several years. Carol recently retired from Shamrock Preschool in South Bend. Carol's patience & nurturing ways with children were an inspiration to others.
Carol Jean enjoyed cooking, especially using her own recipes to prepare home cooked meals for her family. She also enjoyed dining at a few of her favorite local restaurants. She took such pride & joy in maintaining a loving home. She loved nature and adored her grand fur baby, Tula. She also enjoyed flower gardening and attending seasonal festivals. Carol Jean absolutely loved the holidays & celebrated each holiday with her immediate and extended family.
Carol Jean lived her life by faith and shared her gift of life with so many others. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 am, Tuesday, November 30, 2021 at Holy Cross Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Highland Cemetery. A visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 7:00 pm Monday at the Kaniewski Funeral Home, 3545 N. Bendix Drive, South Bend, Indiana. Memorial Contributions may be directed to Heart to Heart Hospice or Holy Cross Catholic Church. To send online condolences, please visit kaniewski.com.
