Carol McGuire, age 88, of Algona, passed away Wednesday January 15, 2025 at her home. Visitation will be 4:30-6:30 PM Wednesday January 22 at the Lentz Funeral Home in Algona. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 am Thursday January 23 at the Divine Mercy Catholic Parish ~ St. Cecelia in Algona. Carol Viola Wagner, the daughter of Ted and Carmen (Lenertz) Wagner, was born on April 10, 1936, in Fort Dodge, Iowa. She graduated from St. Joseph High School in 1954 and then received her RN degree from St. Joseph Mercy Nursing School in Sioux City in 1957. On November 12, 1957, Carol was united in marriage with Luke T. McGuire in St. Joe, Iowa. She worked as a nurse at St. Ann's Hospital and Drs. Schutter and Koob in Algona, Arco Chemical Company and lastly for the Burt Community School system.
Carol was an outstanding baker and was especially known for the homemade cookies and fresh-baked bread she made for her family and friends. Carol enjoyed coloring, playing the piano, knitting, and sewing. She was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and the St. Louis Cardinals. Carol loved her family and cherished the time she spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Carol is survived by her children, Nancy (Harlan) Steburg of Algona, Norma (Matt) Schiller of Buckingham, and Nicholas (Lori) McGuire of Burt; eight grandchildren, Allison (Andrew Bormann) Steburg, Jacob Schiller, Emma (Keefe) Williams, Luke Schiller, Joseph (Jordan) Schiller, Crystal (Joshua) Begley, Cassie (Kevin) Marso, and Clinton McGuire; three step grandchildren, Stephanie Steburg, Danielle Allen, and Brian Steburg; and great grandchildren, John and Luke Begley, Elsie, Charlie, Millie and Josie Marso, Tenley and Leo Williams, and Bodie Bormann. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Luke in 2017; a grandson, Cyle McGuire and an infant brother, Ted Wagner.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Ronald McDonald House in honor of Carol.
