Carol Jean McRaven, age 90, of Tuscumbia, Missouri, passed away on January 2, 2025, at Miller County Care and Rehab, surrounded by her loving family.
Born in Spring Glen, Utah on April 28, 1934, Carol was the daughter of Willard E. Davis and Zella C Anderson. She graduated from Mooseheart High School in Mooseheart, Illinois, and continued her education to become a certified teacher. Carol married William D. McRaven, and they shared many years of love and happiness until his passing on August 2, 2008.
Carol had a fulfilling and varied career, starting as a dedicated first-grade teacher in schools across Illinois. She later worked for General Telephone in the engineering department in Bloomington, Illinois, before transitioning to the State of Texas Department of Social Services in Wichita Falls, Texas, as a case worker. Carol retired in 1990, but her passion for helping others never wavered. In retirement she continued to tutor students and give freely of her time and gifts generously to others.
In her free time, Carol found pleasure in a variety of hobbies. She enjoyed bowling, playing BINGO, reading, playing cards and games with her family. Carol was adventurous and she delighted in going to amusement parks and horse races. She was exceptional at cross stitching and made many beautiful keepsakes for her family and friends. She loved crafting and made beautiful cards, ribbon angels, ornaments and other handmade items to take to craft shows with her husband.
Carol loved her Savior Jesus Christ and loved to tell others about the gospel message. She enjoyed singing in the choir, her Sunday School outings, and serving as a member of Concord Baptist Church in Jefferson City.
Carol's family meant the world to her. She is survived by her daughters, Michelle Nix (Ricky), Suzanne Carlisle (Ben), and Lisa Withers (Tim), 11 grandchildren: Jennifer (Chris), Steven (Angie), Elizabeth (Ryan), Isabel, Jacob (Adri), Nicole, Ian (Courtney), Rea (Billy), Danielle, Matt (Chelsea), and Nate; 29 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her son, Brad McRaven, and all of her siblings.
Friends will be received from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, with service following at 9:30 with Pastor Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating, Committal service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Mount Vernon, Illinois.
