Carol Meyers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Vander Plaat Funeral Home - Wyckoff on Sep. 29, 2025.

Carol A. Comstock Meyers passed on from natural causes at her Mahwah, New Jersey home on September 8, 2025 at the age of 87.

Carol was born on August 1, 1938 in Paterson, NJ. She grew up in Wyckoff, New Jersey with her parents, Clinton and Mildred Comstock and her younger sister Nancy.

After high school, Carol went on to graduate with an emphasis in secretarial studies, receiving an A.A. from Centenary College, Hackettstown, NJ in 1958. Brought up in a Methodist family she not only became a faithful member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Wyckoff, NJ, but also served as their head secretary for more than 30 years.

Devoted to her three children, as a single mom she did her best to care for them through illnesses and celebrations. While she struggled at times to make financial ends meet, Carol made it her priority to serve three meals a day as well as taking responsibility to find fun activities for her children and seeking opportunities outside the home to provide them with a good education and social experiences.

At the end of a busy day, she enjoyed watching TV, especially "The Tonight Show" and later on the late- night shows that followed. Bowl and spoon in hand, she would laugh at Johnny's jokes eating one of two of her favorite ice creams, coffee or chocolate chip mint.

In the summers, Carol's favorite vacation spot was taking her three children to visit her parents who resided in Clearwater, Florida.

Anyone who knew Carol will remember her as a kind and sweet woman, always asking how they were doing and truly interested in knowing what they were currently up to. This of course served her well as the church secretary. Any member who was ill could expect a call from her, asking how they were feeling or if they needed anything. Likewise, a member calling up to ask a question or a favor certainly would receive an answer as soon as possible.

Carol is survived by:

Her three children, Rick Holborow, Ginny Henderson, Linda Darlington and her husband Wayne

5 grandchildren, Alyssa Santa Maria and her husband LJ, Zack Henderson, Connor Henderson, Max Darlington and Madison Darlington.

Most recently: 2 great-grandchildren, twin girls, Francesca and Ava, were born to Alyssa and her husband LJ.

She was predeceased by her husband, Henry (Harry) Meyers.

The family will receive friends for a memorial service on November 24, 2025 at 1pm at Grace United Methodist Church, 555 Russell Ave., Wyckoff, NJ. A private family interment will follow at Redeemer Cemetery in Mahwah, NJ.

Just happened upon this obit and was very moved by it. It must have been hard to be a single mom decades ago (it's always hard!) but it sounds like she had a lot of passion for life and passed that along to all of you. As a mom, I hope to do the same with my kids. I'm sorry to you and the grandkids for your loss, but glad for a great life she lived. Love that she enjoyed chocolate chip mint ice cream (my favorite!), and those trips to Fla must bring warm memories. I lost my mom last year and smiled when I read your own memories of yours. Thank you.
