Carol Sue Newton, 83, of Owensboro, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 14, at her home. She was born July 25, 1942, to the late Jackson and Jewell Sutton.
Carol's early life was filled with promise and joy, leading her to graduate from Dixon High School in 1960, where she participated as a majorette and was actively involved in 4-H.
With a passion for helping others, Carol dedicated over 40 years of her life to nursing, primarily in the operating room at Owensboro Daviess County Hospital, where she served as head nurse in surgery. Her commitment to her profession was unwavering, and she remained active in the Retired Nurses Group following her retirement, reflecting her enduring dedication to the nursing community.
Carol found joy not only in her career but also in her personal life. She and her husband, Bob, shared many happy adventures, reveling in their love for camping, boating, and traveling across the country on their gold wing motorcycle. Warm weather brought out the best in Carol, as she enjoyed relaxing in her backyard pool and welcoming friends to join her, always encouraging guests to bring their bathing suits. She had a particular fondness for beach vacations, where the sun and sand added to her joyous spirit.
Family was central to Carol’s life, and she took great pride in her grandchildren, often celebrating milestones and gatherings. She cherished Christmas gatherings at her brother and sister-in-law's home and looked forward to visits from her family, particularly those from out of town. Carol's home was a hub of love, laughter, and friendship. Her close-knit group of neighbors would come together for community gatherings, fostering deep bonds of camaraderie.
In her later years, Carol's true pride and joy were her grandchildren and the great-grandchildren who brought smiles to her face during her final days.
In addition to her parents, Carol is preceded in death by her loving husband, Bobby Newton.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters, Tammy McKay (Brad) and Bobbi Yeckering-Gardner (Lisa); siblings, Doris Mitchell and Tommy Sutton (Sara); grandchildren, Ashley Yeckering, Amanda Yeckering, Hunter McKay (Megan), Bailey McKay (Ashley) and Hannah McKay Ballard (Bailey); great-grandchildren, Mia Marie McKay and Bella McKay Ballard; aunt, Mildred Russell; her beloved dog, Toby; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.
The funeral service for Carol will be 10 AM Wednesday, November 19, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory. Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 PM until 6 PM and Wednesday, 9 AM until time of service at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery in Dixon, KY.
