Carol, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed into eternal life on January 29, 2025, at the age of 87. A cherished resident of the Fox Run Senior Community in Novi, Carol was known for her warmth, kindness, and love of life.
Born on New Year's Day in 1938 to the late Dr. Charles and Annabelle (Van Dusen) Castrop, Carol embraced each new year with joy and celebration, always making New Year's Eve a special occasion. She graduated from St. Alphonsus High School, Dearborn, in 1955, and furthered her education at Michigan State University. On June 12, 1986, she married Robert K. Oddy, in Livonia. They shared many wonderful years together before his passing on April 12, 2003.
Carol had a passion for playing euchre, trying her luck at the slot machines, and exploring the world through travel and cruises. She spent her winters in Clearwater Beach, FL at Isle of Sand Key, where she found great joy with her friends while enjoying the weekly "Friday happy hour." She was an avid Detroit Lions and Tigers fan. She spent numerous summers as a child and an adult at Strawberry Lake in Pinckney and was the self-proclaimed head of the Beach Patrol where there were numerous shenanigans.
Carol's family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the caring staff at Fox Run Senior Living, the dedicated caregivers at BrightStar Care, the compassionate nursing team at Henry Ford Providence Novi Hospital, and the supportive professionals at Compassus Hospice Care. Their kindness and devotion brought comfort and peace to Carol in her later days.
Carol is the beloved mother of Ron Rashid, Jr., Charlie (Anne Farris) Rashid, Kathy (Zoli) Salata, Karen (Brian) Balow, Sue (Jay Coslow) Rashid and Tom Rashid; cherished grandmother of Natalie (Aron) Aycock, Jay Rashid, Jennifer Salata, Allison Salata, Grace Balow, Nicole Salata and Luke Balow; and great-grandmother of Mason Aycock. In addition to her parents and husband, Carol was preceded in death by siblings, Charles Castrop, Jr., and Mary Anne O'Connor, her favorite uncle Vincent (Gigi) Castrop, and her former husband and good friend, Ron Rashid, Sr.
Carol's funeral mass will be celebrated Saturday morning, February 8, at 10:00 am (in state at 9:30 am) at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 23615 Power Rd., Farmington.
Interment will take place in the coming days at South Hamburg Cemetery.
Carol's family have planned a luncheon to further celebrate her life. All are invited to gather after mass at Zukey Lake Tavern, 5011 Girard Drive, Pinckney.
In lieu of flowers, those who wish to honor Carol's life are invited to contribute to The Michael J. Fox Foundation in her name.
Carol's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

February 3, 2025

My sympathies go out to Carol´s family in their time of mourning the loss of their loved one.
Carol and Bob were always great hosts at both their Strawberry Lake and Clearwater Beach homes, as I married into the Oddy family in 1990. We always enjoyed their visits to us in CA over the years. Playing euchre was a plus!
Cherish the memories you all had through the years. Love Cynthia Oddy
