Carol A. Peterson, 87, of Worcester, MA passed away Monday, August 11, 2025 at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Worcester.

Born in Worcester on April 6, 1938 she was daughter of the late Joseph H. and Katherine D. (Sampson) Peterson.

Carol is survived by her spouse Anne J. Cooney of Worcester, MA; nephews Kenneth A. Peterson of Worcester, MA, Thomas A. Peterson of Jefferson, MA, Jesse E. Peterson of Putnam, CT and Cameron J. Peterson of Coram, NY. Carol was predeceased by brothers Kenneth A. Peterson and Joseph Peterson.

Carol lived most of her life in Worcester, most recently residing with her spouse Anne J. Cooney at Holy Trinity Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.

Carol graduated from North High School in Worcester in 1956. She attended Union College in Kentucky and later graduated from Worcester State College with dual majors in Secondary Education and French.

Carol worked for many years at the Worcester Community Action Council, which provided assistance to people in need. She served in various director-level and project coordinator roles.

Carol later worked for the Child Protection Program at UMass Medical Center in Worcester until her retirement. Earlier in her career, Carol taught French language and culture at the high school level for several years.

Carol was an enthusiastic and talented amateur photographer, frequently developing her own photos at home. Her passion for photography began early in life as a member of the Camera Club in high school. She was also an avid reader and was a member of the Friends of the Worcester Public Library. In her younger years, Carol played the bagpipe and was a member of the Worcester Girls Pipe Band.

Carol loved nature and enjoyed vacationing with family in Wellfleet on Cape Cod.

Carol and Anne owned several dogs through the years, each of whom enjoyed their loving affection and frequent indulgence.

Carol will be remembered by family and friends for her gentle spirit, kind heart and thoughtfulness toward others.

Calling Hours will be Tuesday, September 2, 2025 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Jackman Funeral Home, 7 Mechanic Street, Douglas, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations in Carol's memory can be made to Abby's House, 52 High St, Worcester, MA 01609.
