Carol Ann Anderson Redding, age 84, of Tarboro, NC, passed away peacefully on June 5, 2023 at ECU Edgecombe Hospital.
Carol was born on December 1, 1938 in Leggett, NC to the late Arrington Anderson and Goldie Stokes Anderson. She was happily married to Frank Redding for 30 years until his passing in 1998.
Carol graduated from North Edgecombe High School as Salutatorian in 1957. She attended Louisburg College and then the American Institute in Washington, DC, before accepting a job with the FBI in Washington, DC, at just 20 years old. She enjoyed a successful career with the FBI, receiving several promotions during her 7 years there. Carol then moved to Maryland to begin a career in Insurance, working there for 3 years before meeting Frank. She continued to work in the insurance business until 1976.
They moved several times with Frank's job, making many new friends with each move. They both enjoyed golf and Carol was a skilled player, winning many tournaments. She also enjoyed time spent playing bridge with her friends.
In 1987, Carol and Frank retired to Tarboro, where she was happy spending time with family, working in her yard and enjoying her Sunday school class at Trinity Baptist Church. After Frank's passing, "Sister" depended on her brothers and loved having them come to help with her "fix it" items and yard chores. They loved it too, but would never admit it. Each brother was her favorite. Carol delighted in spending time with her neighbor Kathy, and though they became less able to visit each other's homes as they aged, they enjoyed having lengthy phone conversations to catch up in the evenings.
Carol is survived by her 3 brothers: Col. Wilbur "Andy" Anderson (ret. USAF) (Dawn, dec.) of Richmond, VA, Col. Calvin Anderson (ret. USAF) (Christine) of Whitakers, NC, and Don Anderson (Ruby Jean) of Leggett, NC.
Carol and Frank did not have children, but she leaves behind 3 nieces and 6 nephews: Curtis Anderson (Cherie), Bennett Anderson (Sarah Jo), Stephanie Anderson (Jens), Arrington Anderson (Robert), Michael Anderson (Charlotte), Paul Anderson (Jay), Jean Nash (Brent), Don Anderson, Jr (Charlene), and Renee Anderson.
A celebration of Carol's life will be held at Carlisle Funeral Home at on 4:00 pm on Wednesday, the 7th of June, with the family receiving friends one hour before the service. The internment will follow in Edgecombe Memorial Park, Tarboro, NC.
The family wishes to express love and appreciation to the ladies who shared their gifts of loving, helping, healing, and especially patience over the past 4 years: Barbara Dickerson, Gloria Ransome, Denise Johnson, Shirley Stevens, Martha Dew, Star Pettaway and Felicia White.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Appalachia Service Project. (asphome.org)
