Carol Ann Sander, 86, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, at her son's home in Newton, where she had been lovingly cared for.

Carol was born on August 3, 1939, in Clinton, Iowa, to Charles John Hill and Elizabeth Esther (Randolph) Hill. She graduated from Clinton High School in 1957 and later earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from St. Ambrose University. On February 26, 1961, she was united in marriage to Gilbert Harold Sander in Clinton, Iowa.

Carol dedicated 30 years of her life to nursing, serving others with compassion and care. She retired in 2001 as the Home Health Administrator for Cedar County. She was a member of Stanwood United Methodist Church and was involved in the Lions Club, the Stanwood Library Board, and the Stanwood Economic Development Corporation.

In her free time, Carol enjoyed reading, cross stitch, rubber stamping, and all kinds of crafts. She especially cherished traveling with her sister Sharon, spending time with her grandchildren, and hosting family gatherings during the holidays.

She is survived by her son, Michael Sander (Rebecca Sander); daughter, Sandi (James) Block; son-in-law, Aharon (Emily) Zorea; 14 grandchildren, Zachariah (Tia) Block, Joshua (Rachel) Block, Jonathan (Corrinne) Sander, Caleb (Caity) Nowosatka-Sander, Benjamin (Hannah) Sander, Lucas Sander, Noah Sander, Elijah (Sarah) Sander, Gabriel (Emily) Sander, Laura Sander, Carol Sander, Abigail Sander, Jacob (Raelyn) Zorea, and Jonah Zorea; 14 great-grandchildren; and her sister-in-law, Barbara Hill.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert; her parents; her daughter, Debbi Zorea; her brother, Jack Hill; and her sister, Sharon Dybdahl.

A visitation with the family will be held at Pence-Reese Funeral Home on Friday, January 9, 2026, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A funeral service for Carol will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 10, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A committal service will follow at Springdale Cemetery in Clinton, Iowa.
