Obituary of Carol J. Schmidt

Carol J. Schmidt (née Reichardt), a devoted sister, aunt, godmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 6, 2025, at Pine Acres Nursing Home. She was 87 years old.

Born on November 21, 1938, in Brooklyn, New York, to the late Otto and Marie Reichardt (née Wissel), Carol grew up as the middle child of three sisters. She spent most of her life in upstate New York before moving to New Jersey earlier this year to be closer to her family.

Carol built a long and respected career as an executive assistant, working for several companies, including Doubleday Publishers in Garden City, New York, and Nursing Sisters Home Care in Rockville Centre on Long Island. Her professionalism, attention to detail, and warm spirit made her an invaluable presence in every workplace she joined.

A woman of deep compassion and generosity, Carol dedicated countless hours to volunteer work with the nuns, helping with church fundraisers and events. She became particularly known for her delicious scones, a staple of the bake sales she eagerly supported.

Carol loved to help others, whether visiting with friends, driving them where they needed to go, or simply offering a listening ear. Her giving nature touched countless lives.

In her younger years, Carol enjoyed skiing, traveling to Europe with her husband, sewing her own clothes, and baking. She carried an eye for beauty and presentation throughout her life, always dressing well and hosting family dinners with elegant, thoughtful detail: tablecloths, napkin rings, polished silverware, and carefully curated settings. Holiday meals and gatherings were made special by her touch, especially the New Year's Day celebrations she hosted with joy and pride.

Carol met her beloved husband, Robert Schmidt, in their 30s, and the couple shared a lifetime of love and partnership. Though they had no children of their own, Carol treated her nieces, nephews, and godchildren as if they were her own, showering them with affection, guidance, and unwavering support.

Known for her great sense of humor, fierce independence, and natural problem-solving skills, Carol handled life's challenges with a grace that made everything seem effortless. Her spirit, strength, and kindness leave an enduring mark on all who knew her.

Carol was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Robert Schmidt, in May of 2010. She is survived by her sisters Joan Libasci and Kathryn Mazzacano, as well as many nieces, nephews, godchildren, and dear friends who will forever cherish her memory.

Carol will be remembered for her warmth, her wit, her generosity, and the love she poured into every aspect of her life. Her legacy lives on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Services will be held privately for her family.
