Carol Joyce Todd Cook

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Carol Joyce Todd Cook, passed away on August 5, 2025, surrounded by the love of her husband and children. For many years, Carol faced significant health challenges, yet she met each one with grace and quiet strength, never allowing them to diminish her warmth, her spirit, or the deep love she held for others.

Carol was born on May 7, 1955, to Stanley Todd and Irene Rigby Todd in Mesa, Arizona. Her family later moved to Utah, where she was raised in Granger alongside her two brothers and two sisters. While attending college at Utah Technical University, she enrolled in a lunchtime Institute class where students could attend a lesson and enjoy lunch together. It was there that she met Walter Cook. Their friendship grew into a courtship, and they were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 25, 1975.

Carol and Walter began their married life in West Valley City before purchasing their first home in Kearns, where they lived for 27 years, raising their four children, sharing countless adventures, and creating lasting memories. Over their 50 wonderful years together, they were blessed with nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Carol loved her family deeply, and they cherished her in return. Few things brought her more joy than spending time with her children and grandchildren, especially receiving a “tight hug” from her grandkids. A loving and supportive grandmother, she was always eager to nurture special connections. In recent years, she discovered a new passion for building LEGO sets, inspired by her grandchildren’s love for them. She thoughtfully selected sets for each grandchild and delighted in building alongside them, using those moments to connect, share laughter, and show her love.

Carol was endlessly curious, always eager to try something new, and blessed with an extraordinary gift for mastering whatever she set her mind to. Her creativity knew no bounds—whether sculpting whimsical bread animals, painting delicate eggs, sewing tiny clothes for Barbie dolls, baking elaborate cakes, or crafting beautiful cross-stitch designs. She was an accomplished artist and calligrapher, pouring beauty and meaning into everything she touched, from cozy crocheted pieces to lovingly restored furniture. She also had a gift with words, writing heartfelt poetry and clever skits that reflected her quick wit and humorous spirit. Above all, Carol was a creative soul who loved learning, forever seeking new ways to explore, create, and share beauty with the world.

Carol was full of life and possessed a truly adventurous spirit. She loved traveling to new places, backpacking, and scuba diving all over the world. She carried this playful energy into her home, filling it with music, laughter, and joy. A passionate music lover, she enjoyed playing the piano and surrounding herself with melodies of all kinds. Carol’s quick wit and love of humor were ever-present—she could often be found watching British comedies, sparking the occasional food fight, or sharing her collection of corny jokes. She took great joy in creating lighthearted moments and bringing laughter to those around her.

One of Carol’s most remarkable qualities was her natural ability to make people feel comfortable and accepted. She created an atmosphere in her home where everyone was welcomed with genuine warmth and love, leaving visitors feeling uplifted and valued after every encounter. Friendly and outgoing, Carol could strike up a heartfelt conversation with anyone, regardless of their background or circumstances. She was deeply interested in others and eager to make new friends wherever she went. No matter the place or situation, Carol treated everyone as if they were her closest friend, always making them feel truly special. Above all, her warmth and humor were magnetic; whether at the grocery store, the hospital, or any unexpected place, strangers quickly became friends through her kindness and genuine care.

Carol’s life was firmly anchored by an unshakable testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, a faith she lived with quiet confidence and deep conviction. Through her example, she shared love, hope, and strength with all who knew her. She leaves behind a lasting legacy of creativity, laughter, love, and unwavering faith—one that will continue to inspire and bless generations to come. Carol will be deeply missed, but her spirit will forever live on in the hearts of those she touched.

Carol is survived by her husband Walter Cook; daughters Angela (Dave) Hansen, Stephanie (Mike) Grant; sons Matt (Chris) Cook, Steve (Tracy) Cook; grandchildren Laurynn (Jakub) Lewis, Jessica Grant, Tayler Hansen, Maddy Cook, Nick Grant, Reegan Hansen, Isaiah Grant, Doug Hansen, Logan Cook; and great-granddaughter Addisyn Lewis.

She is preceded in death by her father, Stanley Todd; mother, Irene Rigby; brothers, Larry and Cindy Todd, and Charlie Todd; and sister, June Pope.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM, at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 5980 South 1300 West, Taylorsville, Utah. You may visit with the family at a viewing prior to services from 9:00 to 10:45 AM. Interment following services at Memorial Redwood Cemetery, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, Utah.
