Obituary of Carol Jean Tolzin
Carol Jean (Schultze) Tolzin, 82, of Bloomington, Minnesota, died from the effects of dementia on June 4, 2025 with her family by her side.
Carol was born in Fairmont, Minnesota on August 20,1942 to Walter and Ruth (Milow) Schultze. She graduated from Fairmont High School in 1960. She attended Concordia College in St. Paul, earning an associate degree.
Following graduation, Carol moved to Fulda, Minnesota to teach at St. Paul's Lutheran School. It was in Fulda that she met Robert (Bob) Tolzin. Carol and Bob were married on June 13, 1965.
Carol was a stay-at-home mom for many years and then returned to the workforce in 1978. She had long tenures as an Administrative Assistant at the corporate office of Perkins Restaurants and at United Properties before retiring in 2007.
Carol was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She always put the needs of others ahead of her own, looking to help in any way that she could.
Carol enjoyed reading, photography, and camping trips with family and friends. She was an avid fan of Minnesota sports, particularly the Vikings. She and Bob attended games as season ticket holders for many decades. In retirement, she enjoyed traveling and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandson.
Carol was an active member of Mt. Hope Lutheran Church in Bloomington since 1968, at various times serving as an organist, compiling the church newsletter, being a member and serving on the Board of the Women of Hope, and participating in many other activities.
She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Robert Tolzin; sons Jeffrey (Karla) Tolzin, and Jonathan Tolzin; grandson Jackson Tolzin; sisters Donna (John) Burman, Beryl Schultze, and Jane (Terry) Dilling; sister-in-law Jackie Tolzin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Carol was preceded in death by her parents; brothers-in-law Richard Tolzin and Larry Tolzin; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Jeannette and Doug Beckman.
Visitation will be held at the Cremation Society of Minnesota, 7110 France Avenue South, Edina, MN 55435, on Thursday, June 12 from 5:00 – 7:00 PM.
Funeral service will be held at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, 3601 W Old Shakopee Rd, Minneapolis, MN 55431, on Saturday, June 14 at 11:00 AM, with visitation at 10:00 AM and lunch following.
Memorials are suggested to Mt. Hope Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

I'm sorry for your loss. Carol Jean and I were good friends at St. Paul's Lutheran School in Fairmont even if she was a year older! After her parents passed, we lost track of each other. Thinking of you at this time.
