Jean Marie Tolzin, 81, of Brookings, SD passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2022 at the Brookings Hospital, in Brookings, SD. Funeral Services have been set for Monday, June 20, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at the Gracepoint Wesleyan Church in Brookings, SD. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 19, 2022 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Rude s Funeral Home in Brookings, SD.
Jean Tolzin was born on October 20, 1940 in Long Beach, California the daughter of Clifford and Edna Larson. She grew up in Lake Preston, SD and attended school Lake Preston High School/Country School, graduating Lake Preston High School in 1958.Jean continued her education in Huron, SD for 2 years where she earned her Teaching Certificate.
Jean married the love of her life Darwin Tolzin on July 9, 1961 in Lake Preston, SD. They had two kids, Jeff Tolzin and Janeen Herrera. She was a teacher for a year in Ortonville until her and Darwin moved to Kodiak Alaska as he was in the Navy and when that assignment ended they moved to California where she continued her banking career.
Interests and hobbies of Jeans included spending time with the grandchildren, taking care of friends and family, reading, crossword puzzles and traveling the world watching fastpitch softball. Jean was always smiling, happy to help any friends/family and never had a bad thing to say about anything or anyone.
Jean is survived by her husband Darwin Tolzin; two children, Jeffrey (Diana) Tolzin of Sycamore, IL and Janeen Herrera (Jeff Thompson) of Camarillo, CA; 3 grandchildren, Joshua Herrera, Marisa Tolzin Buckner (Michael) and Jordan Tolzin; brother, Robert (Leona) Larson of Elgin, ND.
She is preceded in death by her parents.
