Carol Vaughn Obituary
Carol Krider Vaughn, 86, passed away on November 14, 2025, in Canton. She was born in Detroit, Michigan, on November 18, 1938, to Marylyn (Sweitzer) Krider and Paul Krider. Carol graduated from Lehman High School in Canton in 1956 and from the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia, in 1960, where she earned a degree in education and was an active member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority.
After college, Carol lived in Durham, North Carolina, where she briefly taught elementary school, and Chattanooga, Tennessee. Upon returning to Canton in 1975, she worked as a bank teller before becoming the Activities Coordinator for the Mayor's Downtown Commission. In this role, she brought her passion for downtown Canton to life by helping organize lunchtime plaza concerts, Summerfest events, and other community activities. She also worked at DeHoff Realtors and Walsh College.
Carol spent time living in London, Chicago, and Des Moines, and she enjoyed traveling both within the United States and internationally, and visiting her three grandsons. Throughout her life, she was an avid volunteer, most notably contributing her time to the Palace Theater, the Canton Woman's Club, and Christ Presbyterian Church. She had a joyful spirit and loved nothing more than being with her family and many friends.
Carol is survived by her daughters, Anne Duncan Mathews and Mary (Jeff) Duncan Baer; her grandchildren, Cole (Anna Lane) Conner, Jimmy Mathews, and Garrett Mathews; and her sister, Marylyn Krider Walker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Marylyn Krider, and her sons, Paul Krider Duncan and Stuart English Duncan III.
Calling hours will be held at Christ Presbyterian Church in Canton on Friday, November 21, from 10 - 11:15 AM, funeral services will follow at 11:30 AM in the church. Private burial to take place following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in her memory to the Palace Theater, the Canton Woman's Club, Christ Presbyterian Church, or the Cleveland Clinic Mercy Hospice Center.

Yesterday

So sorry about your Mom. She and I knew each other a long time and participated in many of the same activities, including church. I very recently moved to Florida and am unable to attend her funeral, which I feel very badly about. You are in my prayers. When I lost my son many years ago, she came and sat with me while I waited for my plane and I will never forget that generous act of kindness.
Warm regards,
Bette Maier
