Carole Ann Glaize, passed away on December 25, 2025, in
Virginia Beach, Virginia. She died peacefully on a beautiful Christmas morning, with her sons and sister by her side. It was fitting that she went to be with her Savior on the very day that we celebrate His birth. Carole was preceded in death by her husband, Charles H. Glaize, Jr., her father, Joseph Deal Gwin, and her mother, Lola Frances Gwin.
She is survived by her two sisters: Jo Ann Woodland with her husband Chris Woodland, and Janet Nixon with her husband James Nixon. She was an incredibly loving mother of two sons: Matthew Glaize with his wife Mary, and Charles Spencer Glaize with his wife Liz. She was a beloved grandmother to four grandchildren: Kayle (age 21), Liam (age 14), Lily (age 13), and Tucker (age 2).
Carole was born on December 13, 1948, at DePaul Hospital in
Norfolk, Virginia. She loved the Tidewater region, and she called it home for most of her life. Carole graduated from Maury High School in Norfolk, with the class of 1966. Then she enrolled in nursing school, but before finishing, she moved to El Paso, Texas. She resided there for two short years working as a telephone operator. When she returned to Chesapeake, Virginia, she began working at Christian Broadcasting Network as a secretary, and continued her career there for several more years.
In was during this time, in 1976, that Carole met a man named Charlie Glaize. She immediately knew that he was the one for her! They were married shortly after, in June 1977. They would enjoy a 48-year marriage together. Her son, Matt, was born in March 1978, and her second son, Charles "Spencer", was born in July 1980. Her dreams of being a homemaker were realized! She was deeply dedicated to raising her family, keeping a beautiful home, and supporting her husband. It brought her immense joy to be a wife and a mother. Later in life, her greatest joy became watching her grandchildren grow up.
Her favorite hobby was gardening. Her yard was so pristine that it could have easily been on magazine covers. She also loved reading, writing, and journaling. She kept detailed prayer journals, wrote poems, and penned countless letters to her friends.
Carole devoted her life to Jesus, and her second home was in the church. She led many Sunday school classes, home groups, and Bible studies over the years. She had an incredible singing voice and a true gift for music. She sang in choirs and played both the piano and the guitar. Combining these talents, Carole would become the full-time worship leader for the Episcopal Church of the Messiah. She remained as their worship leader / co-leader for almost 2 decades!
Carole loved sharing her days with her sisters. They were true best friends! They enjoyed gathering each week for Sunday dinners, raising their kids together, and experiencing all of life's special moments.
She had many other deep friendships as well, and she treasured these relationships dearly. She would have long phone calls with her friends and write pages of letters to them. She was known for the way she could comfort someone in any situation and give them the wise advice they needed.
She was a true light to everyone she came in contact with. She would even strike up conversations with complete strangers anywhere she went! She was the life of the party, the shoulder to cry on, the greatest mother, and the most faithful wife. She will be deeply missed by anyone who had the pleasure of knowing her.
