Charles Hetzel Glaize, Jr., 74, passed away on June 30, 2025, in
Virginia Beach, Virginia. He died peacefully, holding his wife's hand, and even gave a smile as he went to be with his Savior. Charlie was preceded in death by his father, Chaplain (Lt. Colonel) Charles H. Glaize, Sr., USAF, and his mother, Nancy Robertson Glaize.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 48 years, Carole Glaize; three siblings whom he loved dearly: Elizabeth Butler with her husband David, John Glaize with his wife Barbara, and Dr. Edward Glaize with his wife Alecia. He was an amazing father of two sons: Matthew Glaize with his wife Mary, and Charles Spencer Glaize with his wife Liz. He was a beloved grandfather to four grandchildren: Kayle (age 20), Liam (age 14), Lily (age 13), and Tucker (age 2).
Charlie was Born on July 6, 1950, in San Antonio, Texas, and lived a truly incredible and adventurous childhood as an Air Force BRAT, living in many locations around the U.S. (and one location in the U.K.). He was even in Hawaii when it became a U.S. State!
Charlie attended Ferrum College and then graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Broadcasting. While in college, he was a campus radio DJ, spinning hits from the 60s and 70s. After leaving Florida, he moved up the East Coast to Virginia Beach. His radio days in college naturally steered him to join the airwaves in the 80s at a Christian radio station in Virginia called WXRI. His rich voice, natural wit, and acting talent launched him into a vibrant career as a voice actor and radio personality. After being on the radio for a few years, he bet on himself and moved full time into freelance voice work. Many people in the Tidewater region will instantly recognize his voice, as he was the national spokesperson for Circuit City. His voice has appeared on thousands of audio and video productions for brands such as McDonald's, CBN, The Family Channel, Busch Gardens, The MacArthur Memorial, the Venetian Hotel in Las Vegas, Nauticus, and countless others. He even narrated 19 audiobooks that you can currently find on Audible.com. His distinctive tone has been heard by listeners all around the world!
While in Virginia, Charlie met a young woman named Carole, through a mutual friend. Their romance blossomed, and they were married in June 1977. From that moment on, he and Carole built a beautiful 48-year journey together, raising their family with strong Christian values, love, and lots of laughter.
He was a proud father, a doting grandfather, and a devoted family man who cherished every moment spent with his loved ones. He would provide constant entertainment for all the children in the family. He would create worlds of interactive characters and voices, reading to the kids from his favorite books (including the Narnia series by his favorite author, C.S. Lewis). He even had a unique talent for ventriloquism, with his beloved puppet "Bobby" making more than a few family appearances.
Charlie was a huge fan of baseball and golf. He got to see many legends play in person at Candlestick Park, including Willie Mays and Willie McCovey. He would play game after game of wiffle ball and catch with his sons, instilling a love of sports in their lives as well! He really enjoyed playing golf, and all those hours on the course would create a deep bond with family and friends. He was a tech-savvy guy long before it was cool-recording family memories on a clunky camcorder and always having the latest Apple gadget in hand. He had a deep fondness for Hawaii and the West Coast, and he would take many trips back to these destinations throughout his years.
Charlie leaves behind a legacy of laughter, love, and the unmistakable sound of his voice. He was a man who made stories come alive, and now his own story will live on, echoing in the hearts of those who knew him.
