JOHN THOMAS Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Strunk Funeral Homes and Crematory - Sebastian on Jan. 26, 2026.
John F. Thomas, 85, passed away peacefully at home with family on January 21, 2026, in Sebastian, Florida. Born on April 18, 1940, in Headland, Alabama, John lived a life marked by devotion-to his family, his faith, and his community.

John pursued higher education with determination and purpose. He earned an associate's degree from the University of Florida before completing a bachelor's degree in accounting at Troy University. His academic achievements laid the foundation for a successful 25-year career as an accountant with Rinker Materials Corporation.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was deeply committed to his faith and church communities. He served faithfully in numerous roles throughout his life: as a missionary, treasurer, Sunday School teacher, and groundskeeper at Cornerstone Baptist Fellowship in Sebastian; as a deacon at First Baptist Church of Winter Beach; and as a nursery worker and pre-school teacher at Gold Coast Baptist Church in West Palm Beach. His dedication extended beyond the church walls through his volunteer work with Florida Baptist Disaster Relief, where he offered comfort and support to those facing hardship.

John's love for God was evident in every aspect of his life. He was known for being friendly to everyone he met-a man whose warmth and kindness left lasting impressions on all who crossed his path.

At home, John was a devoted husband to Janet Thomas for over 60 years and a loving father to Pam Hughes and Ken Thomas (and his wife Marny). His family brought him immense joy and pride. He deeply loved his grandchildren-Bethany Bryant (and her husband Cory), Brendon Hamilton (and his wife Erin), Caleb Hamilton (and his wife Sabrina), Joshua Hamilton, Ian Thomas, and Nadia Thomas-each of whom held a special place in his heart. John was also blessed with 7 wonderful great-grandchildren.

John also shared close bonds with his siblings: Bobby Thomas and Deborah McDonald. He carried fond memories of those who preceded him in death-his parents Burl and Eula Thomas, and sisters Nell Nelson and Lorelle Bonard.

In addition to his deep faith and family ties, John found great enjoyment in the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing and gardening-activities that allowed him to connect with nature-and he remained active through softball and tennis for much of his life.

John F. Thomas will be remembered for the steadfast love he showed to those around him, the strength of his convictions, and the joy he brought into everyday moments. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Celebration of Life will be held on April 18, 2026, at 11:00 AM at Cornerstone Baptist Fellowship, 1091 Schumann Drive, Sebastian, Florida.
