Allan Hood Clark

Allan Clark, age 90, a longtime resident of Virginia Beach, Virginia, passed away peacefully on January 20, 2026.

Allan was born on August 17, 1935, in Marblehead, Massachusetts, to Prescott Clark and Helen Doliber Clark, both of whom preceded him in death. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, a commitment that shaped his steady work ethic and quiet strength throughout his life.

In 1955, Allan married the love of his life, Gertrude Clark, with whom he shared a devoted marriage built on loyalty, care, and mutual respect. In her later years, Allan was especially attentive and loving, always putting her comfort and well-being first.

Allan was the father of Doreen Bradford, whom he adored.

Known to many as a man of quiet talents, Allan was most at home in his woodshop, where he spent countless hours building bookcases, refinishing furniture, and creating pieces with care and precision. His grandchildren fondly remember time spent beside him, watching him work, sweeping the floor, and breathing in the comforting scent of fresh-cut wood. When the house grew busy, Allan could often be found happily tucked away in that workshop, doing what he loved most.

In addition to woodworking, Allan was a skilled mechanic, always willing to help keep the family's cars running. During the 1990s, he owned Eastern Appliance, often bringing his granddaughters to work with him and sharing both time and lessons along the way. He also enjoyed challenging himself with Sudoku puzzles and had a lifelong love of learning new things.

Family travel was an important part of Allan's life. When his daughter was young, he and Gertrude took her to Disneyland in California and made frequent trips back to Massachusetts to visit relatives.

Allan is survived by his daughter Doreen Bradford; grandchildren Pamela, Pippen, Kimberly (Robert) Pollard, and Amy (Daniel) Cook; great-grandchildren Caitlyn, Emily, Isabella, Gray, Robert and Alexandria Pollard, Hailea and Wesley Cook; and great-great-grandson Xavier Sabella.

A Celebration of Life will be held on January 30, 2026, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Altmeyer Funeral Home, 5033 Rouse Drive, Virginia Beach, Virginia.
