Carole Agnes Gorsich, age 78, long term resident of Naperville IL, passed away peacefully Sunday, April 23rd surrounded by her family.
Carole was truly an amazing woman, devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother. She was born December 30, 1944, in Greencastle, IN to her late loving parents Agnes and Rexford Thorlton, and brother, John (Mac) Thorlton.
Carole attended Greencastle High School, class of 1963, and always spoke so adoringly of her hometown and childhood.
She attended DePauw University, class of 1967 where she joined the Alpha Phi Sorority and remained an active alumnae for both. She graduated in 1967 with a BA in Art and Education at DePauw, where she met her spouse (former) Dennis T. Piech. They were married in 1968 and went on to have 3 children, Laura, Arian, and Andrew.
Carole was an art teacher at Franklin and Monroe middle schools in Wheaton, IL for more than 20 years. She was also a long-time member of Community Christian Church and regular participant in their Women's Connections Groups. She was always lending a supporting ear and wise counsel to her students and close-knit church small groups.
She was fervent about serving others and making everyone around her feel special and loved. One of her passions was finding perfectly personal gifts for her loved ones and wrapping them beautifully to suit. Her other passions included hosting family and friends, traveling with her husband, gardening, baking, bird watching and making memories with her family.
Carole leaves behind a loving and devoted family. She is survived by her husband of 19 years Dr. Robert E. Gorsich and her children Laura (Casey) Piper, Andrew (Alicia) Piech, Arian McInerney (Bill Codo), and Rob's children Angela (Jeff) Dvorak, and Pamela (Mark) Haywood.
Carole has a special bond with her wonderful grandchildren who all called her "Mimi" Shaye, Jack, Cullen, and Drake Piper, Becket and Delaney McInerney, Aila Piech, Jaye, April, and Logan Dvorak, Chela and Annie Alger, and Kaela, Jake and Owen Codo. Carole will also be missed by nephew Tim Thorlton (Karen Lathim), niece Kris (Michael) Batross and great niece and nephews, Erika and James DeRoon, Cole Thorlton, and Kyle and Jacob Batross.
Carol leaves an enduring mark on the world and is a true inspiration of faith, sweet heartedness, encouragement, kindness, grace and love. Her family and friends will miss her more than words can say, but they will draw strength from the shining example that she was to everyone around her and through the knowledge that she rests in peace with the Lord.
Visitation will be from 9:30 am to 11:30 am at Beidelman-Kunsch, 516 S Washington Street, Naperville, IL. Interment will be private at Naperville Cemetery, Naperville, IL.
