Caroline S. Horton, 73, passed away peacefully at her home surrounded by her family on April 24, 2025, in Tell City, IN.
She was born on November 11, 1951, to Eugene and Gayle (Pannett) Sabelhaus. Caroline was a graduate of Tell City High School in 1970 and then obtained her degree as an LPN from Evansville School of Practical Nursing. She retired from Oakwood Health Campus but continued doing private care, a career in which she touched the lives of so many through her 54-year journey of being a nurse. She often took her dogs with her to visit patients and others in the community, which brought her so much joy and fulfillment.
Caroline was married to the love of her life, Richmond T. Horton, and they shared many wonderful years until his passing in 1995. She loved being outside, driving her sports cars, attending car shows, going shopping, and vacationing with her family seeing the United States. Caroline loved her dogs and if you saw her out, one of them was never far behind, walking or riding in the back of her truck. When she saw a need, she met that need.
In addition to her parents and her beloved husband, Caroline was preceded in death by her brothers, Wayne and David Sabelhaus.
Caroline is survived by her daughter, Marigayle (Brent) Alvey of Hastings, MN; son Jefferson Taylor of Tell City, IN; and 2 granddaughters, Natalie Alvey and Sidney Taylor.
A private Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Memorial donations can be made to River's Edge Animal Shelter.

I lived across from Caroline until I was 10 years old. We would play Barbie dolls and her mom would give us a midafternoon snack. She had the best collection of doll clothes (sewn by her mom if I recall correctly). Ironically just last week I was remembering Caroline and her very sweet family. Rest in peace!
