Caroline Louise was born on December 21, 1938, in Washington, North Carolina, to Edward and Lou Mallison. The second of four daughters, she grew up in Southport, North Carolina, where she developed a love for the ocean, fishing, and the close bond she shared with her sisters. On August 20, 2025, Caroline peacefully left this world in Fayetteville, Georgia, surrounded by love. On August 31, 1957, Caroline married the love of her life, Joseph D. McMahon of Atlanta, Georgia. Together they shared a deep Catholic faith in God, a marriage of 63 years, and the joy of raising six children. Their devotion to each other endured until Joe's passing on August 7, 2020, with Caroline faithfully by his side. Caroline's journey took her through several states, including 12 years in Dallas, Texas, before she and her family settled in Newnan, Georgia, in 1978. While raising her children, she accomplished a lifelong dream by graduating from LVN School in Dallas in 1972. She went on to score among the top ten graduates statewide on the LVN Boards in Austin, Texas, that same year. She served as a dedicated and beloved nurse, cherishing the patients and hospitals where she worked. A true animal lover, Caroline rescued countless creatures-bees, birds, wasps, and dogs-from harm, and she adored her Boston Terriers, who brought her great joy. She was also an accomplished equestrian, raising and showing Morgan horses with passion and pride. Faith was central to Caroline's life. A devout Catholic, she was first active with the Legion of Mary and, in later years, participated faithfully in the Holy Face prayer group at St. George Catholic Church. After much study and preparation, she also became a Lay Carmelite, treasuring her parish community, her pastors, and the many friends she made there. Blessed with many talents, she painted, sketched, sang, gardened, kept bees, built, knitted, and more-but her greatest gifts were her compassion, humor, and unconditional love, which touched everyone who knew her. Caroline was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband Joe, and her son Dennis Patrick McMahon. She is survived by her children: Catherine McKenzie-Smith, John McMahon (Ivonne), Nancy McMahon, Timothy McMahon (Danielle), and Andy McMahon (Angel). She also leaves behind many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, a sister, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins who will continue to cherish her memory. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, September 16, 2025, at St. George Catholic Church, 771 Roscoe Road, Newnan, GA 30263, with Father Stephen Lyness officiating. Burial will take place following the mass at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 656 Roscoe Road, Newnan, GA 30263. Condolences may be expressed to the family online at www.mckoon.com.
