Caroline Nichols Stevens (née Moss), 77, of Sudbury, MA passed peacefully on March 27, 2026 due to Parkinson's Disease.

Caroline was born on 14 October 1948 in Boston, MA and grew up in Lexington, MA. Her first job was with her best friend at the Lexington Public Library. Some of her happiest childhood memories were of spending summers at her family's country house in Cavendish, VT. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin, and after working briefly as an editor in publishing, went on to pursue a Master's degree in special education at Boston University. She taught at both the RJ Grey Junior High School and Acton Boxborough Regional High School in Acton, MA before transitioning to teaching at the Peabody Middle School in Concord, MA. Throughout her career as an educator, Caroline made lifelong friendships. She often said that the only job she cherished more than teaching children, was being a mother.

Caroline married James Wanhope Moss in 1983. They lived together in Tokyo, Japan and Sydney, Australia before returning to the USA after having children.

Caroline retired to the Ferry Village condominium in South Portland, ME where she loved being near the ocean. Her neighbors became true friends. While in Portland, Caroline was a volunteer docent at the Kotzschmar Organ and the Victoria Mansion. She also volunteered at the local elementary school with the special education department as a reading specialist. Caroline was known for her needlepoint hobby, and for being a crossword puzzle enthusiast. She was famous for her holiday baking, specifically her gingerbread cookies and sticky buns, a recipe passed down to her from her Aunt Bunny.

Caroline is survived by her children, Caroline Alta Moss and William James Moss, her brothers and sisters, John & Gretchen Stevens and Robert & Mary Jane Stevens, and her treasured nieces Gretchen Kenny, Lauren Garibaldi, and Julie Spero. She was predeceased by her parents, Caroline LLoyd-Jones Stevens and Harold Elmer Stevens.

Caroline’s life will be celebrated during public visiting hours on Thursday, April 2nd from 4 to 6 pm at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord, MA. All who knew and loved her are welcome to attend. Please come as you are. A private family burial will follow on Friday, April 3rd at Mount Auburn Cemetery in Cambridge, MA.
