Alberta Stevens Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Elliott Mortuary & Crematory - Hutchinson on Mar. 30, 2026.
Alberta Marie Stevens, 90, of Hutchinson, passed away on March 25, 2026, at her home. Born on May 31, 1935, at Grace Hospital in Hutchinson to Dicey Albert Teter and Emma Juliann Bump Teter, Alberta was proud of her Norwegian, Irish, and German heritage. She grew up on a farm south of Hutchinson, attending school in Elmer and South Hutchinson before graduating from Hutchinson High School in 1953. She furthered her education at Hutchinson Community College and through KSU extension training.

On October 23, 1954, she married Linwood Stevens at Trinity United Methodist Church in Hutchinson. Together, they shared a life of faith, family, and extraordinary adventure for over 71 years.

A Life of Adventure

Alberta embraced the nomadic nature of Lin's career, leaving the family farm to live in Kuwait for three years, Dubai for two years, and Saudi Arabia. While abroad, she worked in interior design, furnishing company villas and apartments in Kuwait.

Her travels took her across Europe, Asia, Africa, all 50 U.S. states, Mexico, and Canada. She was known for her adventurous spirit-whether riding a camel in Egypt, entering the ancient city of Petra on horseback, or navigating the streets of India where she once found herself chased by large monkeys. Alberta possessed a legendary, unwavering trust in humanity, extending her kindness to everyone she met-including a pickpocket she once encountered in Europe.

Faith and Community

Upon returning to their farm in 1992, Alberta remained deeply involved in her community. A lifetime member of South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, she served as UMW president, a Sunshine Circle Leader, and a dedicated choir member. Her leadership extended to the Reno County Extension board, the American Women League board in Kuwait, and various local social and study clubs. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother.

Alberta's heart was always with her family. She found joy in her English and rose gardens, birdwatching, and the yearly family reunions at Table Rock Lake. Guided by her faith, her favorite scripture was 1 Corinthians 13:8: "Love will never come to an end".

Family and Services

Alberta is survived by her husband, Lin; her son, Brad Stevens (Karen); and her daughter, Kathy Holloway (Mark). She is also survived by five granddaughters: Megan Dosch (Adam), Michelle Fombelle (Greg), Amanda Russell (Mark), Abby Siler (John), and Shanna Stevens; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and her grandson, Justin Stevens.

Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. Friday, April 10, 2026, at South Hutchinson United Methodist Church, 206 E. Avenue E, South Hutchinson, with Rev. Mike Rose officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will greet friends beginning at 9 a.m. the day of the service at the church.

Friends may sign her memorial book from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 12-5 p.m. Sunday at Elliott Mortuary.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to South Hutchinson United Methodist Church or Hospice & HomeCare of Reno County, in care of Elliott Mortuary, 1219 N. Main, Hutchinson, KS 67501.

May each day of your life be filled with happiness, peace and, most of all, love.
