Carolyn Sue Baker, age 87, of Lynchburg, VA, formerly of Marion, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 22, 2025 at 8:22 p.m. at her home.
She was born on December 1, 1937 in Sikeston, MO, to Johnnie and Esther (Huffman) Taylor.
Carolyn worked for many years as an office manager for State Farm Insurance in Sikeston, MO and Marion, IL.
Carolyn was united in marriage to Guy L. Baker on April 16, 2003, in Marion, IL, and he preceded her in death on February 14, 2011.
She was a faithful member for many years of Second Baptist Church of Marion, IL and after moving to Virginia she joined Forest Baptist Church of Forest, VA. She enjoyed country western music, dancing, and reading, as well as meeting friends at the mall as they walked and shopped. Carolyn loved to spend time with family and friends. She especially loved babies, and they always made her smile.
She made it a priority to daily spend time in God's Word. She often encouraged others by sharing with them what God had done in her life. Even during her battle with dementia, she could still recite Bible verses and say all the books of the Bible by singing a song she learned in Vacation Bible School. She had a strong faith, hope, and assurance of being welcomed into the arms of Jesus. She was ready to go to her eternal home. Her family is blessed to be given 87 years of her life and rejoices at the full life she lived, thankful for her dedication to the Lord.
She is survived by her children, Chipper Hileman and wife, Angela, of Sikeston, MO and Tim Hileman and wife, Cindi, of Sikeston, MO and Valerie Hancock of Lynchburg, VA; six grandchildren, Audrey Hileman, Patrisha Hileman, Josh Hileman and wife, Delena, Jordan Hileman and wife, Allison, Victoria Gravatt and husband, Christian, and Nicholas Hancock and wife, Laura; great-grandchildren, Levi Smith and wife Hannah, Dylan Horn and wife Madison, Addyson Hileman, and Prestyn Hileman, Caden Hileman, Zachary Hileman, Jacob Hileman, Carson Hileman, Derek Gravatt, Elyse Gravatt, and Desmond Gravatt; great-great grandchildren, Kinsley Horn, Landon Smith, and Alexander Smith; sister, Valene Martin of Paducah, KY; brother, William "Bill" Taylor and wife, Linda, of Nalcrest, FL; and several nieces, nephews, other extended family members and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Johnnie and Esther Taylor; husband, Guy Baker; son-in-law, Scott Hancock; and brother-in-law, Talmadge Martin.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Wilson-McReynolds Funeral Home, 900 North Court Street, Marion, IL.
