Carolyn Blanche Huffman Sides

Carolyn Blanche Huffman Sides, 89, of Brighton, TN, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2025, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 23, 1936, in Brighton, TN, to the late Neverette Lafayette Huffman, Sr. and Annie Mae Marshall Huffman. She was a graduate of Brighton High School and married Joe Harry Sides, Sr. of Cherry, TN, on August 30, 1953.
She began her career working for the Selective Service System in Memphis during the draft years. She later worked for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), retiring in 1995. In her years following retirement, she became "Mimi" to her three beloved grandchildren, Jack, McCallie and Alec. Her greatest joys in life were spending time with her family, brothers and sisters and cheering on the University of Tennessee Volunteers. She was a lifelong member of Brighton Presbyterian Church where she served as secretary of the Margaret Sherrill Circle.
She leaves to cherish her son, Joe Harry Sides, Jr. of Brighton and daughter Katie (Paul) Hensley of Brighton; sisters Mary Pannell, Margarette "Molly" Huffman and JoeAnne Alsbrook; grandchildren John Carlyle "Jack" (Baylee) Ruffin of Memphis, Carolyne McCallie Ruffin of Nashville and Alec-Thomas Huffman Ruffin of Brighton; and great-grandchildren Sterling Love Ruffin and Patrick Sides Ruffin of Memphis. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, Joe Harry Sides, Sr; her parents Neverette Lafayette Huffman, Sr. and Annie Mae Marshall Huffman; brothers Neverette Lafayette Huffman Jr and Thomas Gwinn "Tucker" Huffman; sisters Edith Hanks, Janice Boswell, Shirley Kennedy, Nora Ruth Dickey and Charlotte Williams.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2025, at Brighton Presbyterian Church in Brighton, TN with interment to follow at Indian Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the start of service.
The family would like to thank her compassionate caregivers, Laverne & Monique Hawkins, who provided her with love, care and comfort in her home; and extend a thank you to Methodist Alliance Hospice - Gretchen, Krissy and Martha - for their dedication and kindness. To honor her memory, the family invites donations to the Margaret Sherrill Circle of Brighton Presbyterian Church.
