Mrs. Carolyn D. Gethers (June), age 77, of Philadelphia, PA passed away in Durham, NC, surrounded by her loving friends. A beautiful and kind gem has completed her earthly journey and entered Heaven on Monday, August 18, 2025.
Born on Monday, August 15, 1948, daughter of Cora June and James Brisbon, Carolyn's life has been a testament to the power of love, faith, and family. Carolyn attended William Penn High School, an all-girls school at the time, and Vaux Junior High School. Although she was born in Philadelphia, PA, she spent many summers in Lane, South Carolina with her beloved Aunt Ida.
An extraordinary woman in every sense, Carolyn built a distinguished career as a Dispatch Planner in the bustling city of Manhattan, New York. Her exceptional skills and unwavering dedication to her work were an inspiration to all who knew her. She was not only a beacon of professionalism but also a pillar of her community, embodying the virtues of kindness and selflessness in all her interactions.
Carolyn's life was further enriched by her love for poetry and traveling. She was an amazing poet and gifted by God with a beautiful voice that she was very meek about but when she sang it was like Angels were singing.
Carolyn was known to love her family and nothing was more important to her than spending quality time with her family. She was also the sharpest woman on this planet. She had so much style, class, and carried herself with grace. She always effortlessly made a fashion statement.
She leaves behind a surviving spouse, Leonard Gethers. In addition, her legacy of love includes her daughters, Nichole and Naomi Wilson, who will forever cherish the unconditional love and wisdom their mother imparted. Carolyn's brothers, Benjamin June and Arwin Brisbon, remember her as the beacon of their family, a sister who always led by example. The family tree Carolyn nurtured with love continues to flourish through her grandchildren, Brittney Wilson (wife, Teirra Wilson), Dashawn Davis, great-grandchildren, Amoure and a host of nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews. Her stepchildren, Lesley, Lamont, Lauren, and Leah Gethers, will remember her as a loving and nurturing presence in their lives, always guiding them with love and supportive embrace.
As we mourn the physical absence of Carolyn, we are comforted by the words of the great poet Maya Angelou, who said, "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Carolyn made us all feel cherished, valued, and infinitely loved.
To have known Carolyn was to have witnessed a living example of Christ's love in action. Her selfless spirit and unwavering faith have left an undeniable mark on the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. She walked in kindness, lived in grace, and left a legacy of love that will resonate for generations to come. Her love was never-ending, her faith never-faltering, and her kindness knew no bounds. In honoring her memory, we carry forward the light of her example into the world.
Rest now in the arms of Jesus, your faith has become sight, and your voice joins the heavenly choir in eternal praise.
