Carolyn Doss Kerns, 88, a longtime resident of Gladewater passed away late Saturday, August 19, in a local care facility under hospice care. One of ten children, Carolyn was born in November 1934 to Leonard and Ludie Narramore Doss. She grew up in the East Texas area, attending school in Pine Tree and Kilgore, graduating from KHS in 1953. Carolyn married Kenneth W. Kerns in 1955. He preceded her in death in 1991. They were parents to three children, grandparents to five, great grandparents to two and have two more on the way. Survivors include Children; Kevan (Terry McGee) Kerns of Gladewater, Texas; Karen (Richard) Carson of New Braunfels, Texas; Kenna (Larry) Cook of Longview, Texas. Grandchildren ;Rachel (Kevin) Haynes, Gladewater,Texas; Rebeka(Jared)Eaton of New Braunfels, Texas; Lucas (Courtney Krienke) Cook of Richardson, Texas; John Robert(Jordan Smith) Carson of Chicago, Illinois; Reid Carson of Houston, Texas. Great Grandchildren; Everett Riley Haynes and Leo Wilder Cook. Carolyn walked for fitness for many years and was often greeted by the Primary School staff. Soon she delivered her homemade brownies to them to thank them for watching after her. Her grandchildren always enjoyed her homemade brownies. Carolyn was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church of Gladewater. A gifted seamstress and an amazing cook, Carolyn used her skills as a ministry. She was a very active member of the churches Creative Christians group where she particularly enjoyed making Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. There is no formal service, as requested by Carolyn. If you would like to honor a life well lived please stop by the Kerns home this Sunday afternoon, August 27, between 3-5.
