Hazel Frank Stinnett Thornton was born on October 21, 1933 in Athens Texas to Evie Gurnsey and Jessie Frank Stinnett. She passed into eternity on September 16, 2025.
She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, Wanda Buford, Dorothy Keller and Virginia Ware; her husband, Gerald; her children, Vicki Bentley, Gerald, Jr. and Gary; grandson Jeremy, and great granddaughter Mariah.
Hazel is survived by her grandchildren Matthew (Natalie) Tyler, Jennifer Sampson, Schuyler Thornton, and Dempsey (Mike) Warren; great grandchildren, Evan and Scarlett Sampson; August, Emmett and Ethan Tyler; Gerald, Ramsey and (soon to arrive) Stinnett Warren; daughter-in-law, Joanie Satterwhite Thornton; dear friend, Mary Ellen Adams; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Hazel was a dedicated wife and devoted mother. She had a sharp mind and generous spirit and enjoyed traveling with Gerald. She also enjoyed bird watching and had a love of music. Hazel was a Christian and was a member of Central Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
She was very loved, yet we rejoice in knowing she is with her Lord and Savior Jesus, and is reunited with loved ones who have gone before her.
A graveside service will be held at Post Oak Cemetery in Malakoff, Texas at a future date.
