Carolyn Ruth Wilson Orthman, 93, of Dumas, died on Tuesday, May 21, 2024.

Services will be at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at First Methodist Church with Matthew Brown, Tom Stribling, and Brent Perry officiating.  Burial will follow at the Dumas Cemetery.  Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas, 500 N. Maddox.

Carol was born on May 27, 1930 in Ortonville, MN. To Harold Wilson and Anna Trebil Wilson.  She attended school at Clinton, MN. Where she met and married Galen Sorensen.  To that union were born her two oldest children Susan and Keith.

She then moved to South Dakota.  She was a hard worker, great neighbor, caretaker, and worked for the VA Hospital outside of Sturgis until August of 1965.   She and the children moved to Albuquerque, NM.  There she worked at the Army/Air Base as a cook on the flight line.  There, she met and married Lewis Orthman.  To this family were added brother, Joe and sister, Shannon, and Granny (Callie) Orthman, Aunt Pauline and Uncle, John Payton, Aunt Margie and Uncle Leon Payton; four nieces and and two nephews.

Grandpa and Grandma Wilson wintered with the family for a few years while their health allowed.

Carol wrangled a crazy family.  So much love and fun was afforded all.

On Carol’s “days off”, she always made wonderful loaves of bread, pans of hot rolls, and the biggest treat your own special birthday cake of choice.  Except Susie – she always got her “favorite” – water melon.

If there was anyone in need , Carol was their to help make things better or easier.

In 1998, our brother, Lewis “Lou” Orthman and wife, Barbara joined our crazy family.  What a treasure that has been.

Carol inherited 2 beautiful granddaughters and a handsome grandson.  What a joy!

Carol was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Orthman; her mother-in-law, Callie (Redforn) Orthman; her parents; her husband, Lewis; sisters-in-law, Margie Payton and Pauline Payton; brothers-in law, Leon Payton and John Payton; brother, Robert Wilson and wife Rosemary (Vogel Bacher) Wilson and brother, Rev. Thomas Wilson and wife Janet (Gustafson); son-in-law, Robert Mayfield and great great granddaughter, Audrey Rose.

Carol is survived by daughter, Susan Mayfield of Amarillo; son, Keith Sorensen of Atoka, OK.; son Lewis Orthman and wife Barb; son, Joe Orthman; and daughter, Shannon Pool, all of Dumas; 24 grandchildren, 43 great grandchildren; and 16 great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be sent to First Methodist Church of Dumas, Covenant Fellowship on Avondale in Amarillo, or Moore County Hospice in Dumas.
