Loris..... Carrie Teter Becker of
Loris, SC, passed away on March 5, 2026.
Mrs. Becker was born in
Elkins, WV on July 14, 1935, the daughter of Dave J. Teter and Louise Byron Teter. After graduating high school in 1953, Carrie was employed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC, as a receptionist in the applicant office. She attended Strayer Business College until 1955 when she married Gerald Henry Becker, of
Lancaster, PA.
The Beckers resided in Lancaster and Bucks Counties, PA, where Mrs. Becker was employed by several companies as an executive secretary or administrative assistant, including United States Steel. The Beckers enjoyed traveling to Egypt, Japan, China, and Hawaii, before moving to SC in 1995. There she held several part time jobs, her favorite being a Census Enumerator for the Department of Commerce in 2000 and 2010. She also volunteered for several organizations that provided food to the underprivileged.
Mrs. Becker is preceded in death by her husband, Gerald H. Becker in 1996; a daughter, Joni Lynn Becker; a sister Jo Ann Slocum; and two brothers, Shires B. Teter, and Cuyler M. Teter and his beloved wife Marie Jackson Teter, as well as their daughter Debra Rowan, a beloved niece.
She is survived by her adoring son, Gerald Mark Becker of Little River, SC, and dear son Matthew Dave Becker of Raton, NM. Also surviving are her devoted daughter and son-in-law, Jewel Ann Simmons and husband Donald of
Loris, SC, as well as a dear daughter-in-law, Ann Marie Becker of Little River, SC. Carrie is also survived by her very dearest friend, Jeanette C. Allen, of Dunn, NC.
Her cherished surviving grandchildren are; Jennifer Lynn Becker of Raleigh, NC; Jolene Marie Simmons and husband Benjamin of Goldsboro, NC; Douglas Howard Simmons and wife Sarah Guevin Simmons of Beverly, MA; Gerald David Becker of Little River, SC; and Brooke Anne Becker of Nichols, SC.
Mrs. Becker's beautiful and treasured great-grandchildren are Annabelle Marie Simmons and Ethan James Simmons of Goldsboro, NC; and Arlo Xavier Simmons and Violet Eve Simmons of Beverly, MA.
Carrie's most beloved West Virginia family are her nieces Linda Wood and Terry Broschart of Coalton; Jody Kimble of Norton; and their husbands, children and grandchildren; as well as their cousin Kathy Pomp Beahm of Elkins.
Mrs. Becker was a member of the First Church of Christ, Scientist, in Boston, MA, and had been an active member in Christian Science branch churches in Levittown, PA, Trenton, NJ and Myrtle Beach, SC. During the 1990s she wrote religious articles for The Christian Science Sentinel and Journal, as well as published contributions in The Christian Science Monitor.
Mrs. Becker wrote and published a book entitled "Tapestry of a Family" about her family's history in
Elkins, WV, occurring between 1889 to 1970. Family was always paramount to Carrie. She never put anything before her family members, and loved them all deeply, as they loved her. She will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by many.
