Carrie Elizabeth Hoffman, 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her loving family on Sunday, July 13, 2025. Although born in Vevay, Indiana, she was a lifelong resident of Scott County, Kentucky. Her parents were the late Charlie Humphrey James and Louisa McFarland James. She was born on April 16, 1935, and was one of eight children.
Carrie married Porter Hoffman, and together they raised four children. She will be lovingly remembered by Charles (Ann) Hoffman, Wyatt (Kathy) Hoffman, James Hoffman, Carrie Kathleen Hoffman (Vince Hamilton), and one stepson, John T. Hoffman; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Bonnie Lynn and Betty (Charles) Clifton.
Carrie graduated from Sadieville High School in 1953, where she proudly served as a cheerleader. Her vibrant energy and enthusiasm remained a hallmark of her personality throughout her life. Carrie worked as a clerk at Georgetown College and was beloved by many of the staff and students. She was a co-owner and licensed real estate agent for Hoffman Real Estate. While being a strong voice for the Democratic Party, she served on the Scott County Democratic Executive Committee and Women's Club. In 2010, her dedication was honored with an induction into their Hall of Fame. Carrie was an active member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir and was celebrated for hitting the high notes - both in music and in life. She was an avid traveler who enjoyed going on many cruises with good friend Irene Bramlett, and traveling to Europe and Hawaii with her sister, Mary, and nieces. More than anything, Carrie was a dedicated homemaker and was a proud member of the Morning Glory Homemakers, whom she welcomed into her home for many meals. As an accomplished baker, Carrie won many ribbons and awards in the local fair for her biscuits and breads.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Porter Hoffman; her parents; her brothers, George, Harold, John, and Lewis James; and her sister, Mary Landon.
Services for Carrie Hoffman will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home in Georgetown. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The Funeral Service will begin at 1:00 p.m., with her great-nephew, Daryl Toney, officiating. A graveside service will follow at the Georgetown Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Charlie Hoffman Jr., Andrew Hoffman, Wyatt Hoffman II, Joshua Smith, Daniel Chase Conley, and Page Ray. Honorary pallbearers will be Jimmy McFarland, Danny Hoffman, Mark Sinclair, Glen Gerth, Gloria Cook, Gene Tackett, and David Alpert.
Throughout life, Carrie developed many friendships, including Elizabeth Disney, Janice Covington, Faye Young, and caregiver Carla Peak.
