Carrie Ann Johnson, 82, a beloved daughter, mother, and cherished friend, passed away on Friday, January 31, 2025, at Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House in Fishersville.
Born on November 22, 1942, in Middlebrook, to the late Tazewell "Taz" Veller and Bessie Elizabeth Woods Johnson.
Ann dedicated her career to the bakery at Mary Baldwin College in Staunton, where her warm spirit and talent for baking touched many lives. Beyond her professional commitments, she was an artistic soul who poured her heart into music, singing, and art. She wrote poems and songs, and even authored a book, all reflections of her creative spirit. Carrie had a gift for connecting with people; she never met a stranger and embodied kindness wherever she went. Her love for the Lord was central to her life, guiding her in her interactions and service to others.
She is survived by her daughters, Julie Ann Shiflett Hargrove and Joanne Elizabeth Plecker, and her husband, Mark; her grandchildren, Jeffrey Snook and his wife, Kasey, Cory Hargrove and his wife, Coty, and Kerrie Mattox and her husband, Austin; her great-grandchildren, Ana and Adalynn Mattox, Rowan Hargrove, and Zoey and Rydar Snook; numerous nieces and nephews; and a special sister-in-law, Helen Jane Johnson.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a great-grandson, Taz Snook, and her siblings, Linwood Robertson, Viola Mae Johnson Henson, Alvin Leroy Johnson, Hansford Junior Johnson, Nellie Juanita Johnson Fridley, David Tazewell Johnson, John William Johnson, Virginia Louise Johnson Rupp, Irene H Johnson Cromer, Dorothy Bell Johnson Brenner, Helen Hattie Johnson Tankesley, Lillian Marie Johnson Miller, Mary Lee Monica Johnson Bigina, Richard Filmore Johnson, and John Henry Johnson
She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home in Staunton.
A funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 PM on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at Henry Funeral Home with Pastor Theresa Moore officiating.
Interment will follow at Oak Lawn Mausoleum and Memory Gardens in Staunton.
Serving as pallbearers will be Mark Plecker, Jeffrey Snook, Cory Hargrove, Austin Mattox, Eddie Ray Fridley, and Tim Fridley.
The family would like to especially thank Dr. Kerry Alexander, the ICU nurses at Augusta Health, and the staff of the Augusta Health Hospice of the Shenandoah House for all their care, kindness, and compassion.
