Mr. Carter Dwight Russell, age 76, of Griffin, passed away September 19, 2025. He was born in Zebulon, son of the late John "J.M." Russell and the late Joyce Maddox Russell. He graduated from Griffin High School in 1968, then worked as a Field Technician with the Georgia Experiment Station until April 1971, when he joined the Griffin Fire Department. He was assigned to the City Hall Station as a grass truck driver and often rode the tailboard when answering fire calls. In the late 70s, he graduated from the Police Academy. Carter was a State Policeman at the Farmers Market in Forest Park for many years. In the 80s, he became the first Chief of Police in Milner, GA. He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Zebulon.

Carter enjoyed collecting pocketknives, fishing and cherished the time he spent with his family, especially during the holidays. Christmas was his favorite time of year.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Aura Russell.

He is survived by his son: Kenneth Russell and his wife Heidi, who was more of a daughter to Carter; and his son: Ashley Russell; grandchildren: Anniston Brubaker (Dylan), Bradley Russell, Cameron Russell, Jacob Russell; his first great-grandchild who is due in March. He is also survived by Gloria Russell.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 26, 2025, 11 a.m., at New Hope Baptist Church, 4920 New Hope Road, Zebulon. Pastor Terry Skinner will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Friends may visit the family on Friday, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m., at the church.
