She was a former editor of the Arkansas Episcopalian newspaper and wrote and self-published a small book of reflections, "On the Way to the Kingdom".
On October 29, 1955, she married Harry Swanson, and he preceded her in death on December 9, 1998.
Survivors include her children, Cary Swanson Pallin, Mary Swanson, and John Swanson; eight grandchildren, Sarah Haynes, Eric Pallin, Rocco Portman, Ali Swanson Harker, Luke Bowen, Anna Krause, Julia Swanson, and Jack Swanson; and five great-grandchildren, Henry Haynes, Josie Haynes, Johnny Portman, Andrew Krause, and James Krause.
