Cassandra Crystal Larsen (Marcussen), of Stevens Point, formerly of Sturgeon Bay, WI, passed away unexpectedly on June 7, 2025, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital, at the age of 65.
Cassandra was born December 16, 1959, at Andrews Airforce Base in Camp Springs, MD; daughter of the late Clarence and Mary Ann Marcussen (Peot). As a young girl, her family moved to Sturgeon Bay, WI, where she grew up and spent most of her adult life. She attended local schools and graduated from Sturgeon Bay High School in 1978.
Following high school, Cassandra was married and started a family. While the marriage later ended in divorce, she was a dedicated homemaker. On May 12, 1990, Cassandra married again, becoming Mrs. Tobin Larsen. She had known Tobin since childhood, as he was her older brother Claude's best friend. Although he had her heart since high school, their time to be together wasn't right until their marriage. In her life, Cassandra was extremely proud of every role she played - wife, Mom, and Aunt, and eventually, Grandma, Great Aunt, and Bonus Grandma. She truly believed the way to anyone's heart was through their stomach, and loved to cook for those she loved most. From her infamous potato salad, which was the most requested food at family get-togethers, to her 10 buckets full of Christmas goodies, Cassandra was happy to cook and bake! One Christmas, she committed to making a lot less treats, so instead of 10 buckets, she arrived with 8. When she was in the kitchen, she knew no boundaries, making either one pound of food, or ten - there was no in between!
Cassandra was a voracious reader and had a love for lighthouses, sailboats, butterflies, and the color blue. She was also a skilled cribbage player, winning countless games, and had taught numerous others how to play. Additionally, she could often be found enjoying time in her garden, or going shopping. She really enjoyed shopping, taking her time and walking down every aisle. However, anyone that knew Cassandra well, knew her favorite pastime was simply chatting. She was quite long-winded when given the chance and took every opportunity to keep in touch with her family and friends through visits, phone calls, and texts. Her gift of gab may have also played a role in her being notoriously known for not being on time (nor early), just like her beloved sister, Cindy. While she loved to talk, she really just cherished her time with her family. After raising her own children, she went on to spend several years watching her nephew and great-nephew. She also adored spending time with her grandchildren, especially her newest grandchild, Everett, who brought her endless joy.
Cassandra is survived by her husband, Tobin Larsen of Stevens Point and formerly of Sturgeon Bay; her daughter, Jennie (Ruston Fritcher) Larsen-Fritcher of Schofield and their daughter, Madalyn Fritcher; her son, Jeff (Lori Leonte) Thunander of Bremen, Germany; her son, Steven Thunander of Sun Prairie, WI; her son, Thomas Larsen of Schofield; and her son, Timothy (Alyssa Mlodik) Larsen of Plover and their son, Everett Larsen. She is further survived by her sisters and brothers-in-law, Cathy and Country Kenley and Corley and Nathan Welch; her brothers-in-law, Chris (Connie) Larsen and Ben Larsen; her sister-in-law, Susan (Neil) Howk; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and bonus grandchildren.
Cassandra was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Mary Ann; her sisters, Cynthia Bruss and Candy Ehnert; her brother, Claude Marcussen; and her brother-in-law, Charles Bruss.
The family would like to express a special thank you to the Aspirus Wausau Hospital's Medical/Surgical ICU staff for everything they did to try to save Cassandra's life as well as for the incredible care taken of her family after her passing. Your efforts are appreciated more than you will ever know. Furthermore, thank you to the staff at Aspirus Stevens Point for the great care provided to Cassandra during her recent stay and her previous stays and outpatient care.
A funeral service will be held to honor Cassandra's life at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 20, 2025, at Shuda Funeral Chapel (3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point).
