It is with profound respect and heartfelt warmth that we celebrate the life of Cassandra Ann Taylor, affectionately known as Mama Cassandra. Born on October 14, 1956, in
Detroit, Michigan, she transitioned into eternal rest on October 23, 2023. Mama Cassandra was a beacon of love, a symbol of generosity, and a spirited soul who touched the lives of many with her radiant smile and open heart.
Mama Cassandra's family was the cornerstone of her life. She was a proud mother to her three biological children, Talibuh, Talea, & James III (Lisa). She also embraced Janice, Shontel, and Ben Murphy as her own, treating them with the same affection and care she gave her own children. Ben, in particular, showed his gratitude by always being there for Mama Cassandra, from fixing her car to shoveling her snow. Mama Cassandra was also a beloved grandmother, great-grandmother, and a cherished matriarch to a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who became family. The family would like to acknowledge Ms. Reba Bell, best-friend and sister of over 65 years.
Her education was a testament to her tenacity and dedication. A graduate of Pershing High School at the tender age of 16, Mama Cassandra pursued a Bachelor's degree in Science, earned an Optometry license, and received a Ministerial license from World Harvest Church. Her career spanned several decades, including a stint in optometry where she had the honor of treating Rosa Parks. Her ministerial work, however, was her true passion. She counseled, mentored, and saved many souls, leading them to Christ with a love that was genuine and unwavering.
Mama Cassandra's interests were as diverse as they were profound. She loved to cook, and her culinary skills were legendary, even rivaling those of renowned chefs. She was a tomboy in her youth, but her parent's decision to send her to charm school transformed her into a girly girl with a radiant smile and a heart full of love. Her love for the Lord was the most defining aspect of her life. She attended several churches throughout her life, always finding a spiritual home no matter where she lived. Her faith was not confined to the church; she brought it into her home, holding bible studies every Saturday and teaching everyone about God's love and mercy.
In the words of Maya Angelou, "People will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel." Mama Cassandra embodied this quote, making everyone she encountered feel loved, valued, and cherished. She was the embodiment of kindness and generosity, always opening her home and heart to those around her. She was a mentor to many, a mother to all, and a friend to everyone she met.
Mama Cassandra's life was a testament to the power of love, faith, and generosity. She lived her life in service to others, spreading God's word, and sharing the love of Jesus. Her legacy is one of unconditional love, relentless faith, and unwavering kindness.
