Catherine Ashenfelter, 68, of Bainbridge, long time resident of Clearwater, Florida, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2024.
Catherine Lynn Gruhl was born in Davenport, IA, the daughter of Albert Gruhl & Sue (Painter, Gruhl) Navratil. Each of us has a story. Sometimes the details become the focus shadowing the life lived. Catherine was amazingly intelligent and resourceful; could do anything she set her mind to. She loved dogs and spent years as a trainer. She was artistically very talented. Her experiences, trials, and triumphs made her a strong advocate for those experiencing homelessness.
Survivors include her son, Catlin Ashenfelter; and her siblings, Cari Bosserdet and Barry Gruhl. Catherine was preceded in death by her parents.

I met Cathy in Clearwater, Florida in 2006. She was always helping the homeless and was a voice for them when police would harass the homeless. She often acted as a liaison between police and the homeless. She was often very misunderstood and I am deeply saddened in trying to search for her to reconnect but I have found myself a year too late. I hope she sees from heaven that I tried. Sincerely, Caprice N. Manos
