Catherine Braunschweig Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 10, 2025.
Catherine Thimm Braunschweig, 68, entered into the presence of her Lord and Savior on July 8, 2025.

She was born to Harold and Mary Thimm on January 8, 1957, and spent her childhood at the family farm in Rubicon, Wisconsin, with her 7 siblings and 2 aunts who lived with the family.

Cathy was a faithful servant of Jesus, a loving mother, a dedicated and active grandma, and a devoted wife of 45 years to her husband, Orlen. Cathy met Orlen at Marty Zifko's Ball Room in Hartford the day she graduated from high school. Aside from initially believing his name was Lloyd, there was an instant connection between the two of them. They married in 1979 and lived in Reeseville for 14 years before moving to their Randolph farm where they have now resided for 31 years. They have 5 children, Jessica, Rochelle, Melissa, Shanna, and Jason, and 13 grandchildren.

In addition to being a committed and loving mother, grandma, wife, and friend, Cathy started her own court reporting business 47 years ago. She loved her profession and those she worked with and became known for her shorthand style of writing.

Cathy will be most remembered as a great friend to all and as one who made time for everyone. She treasured people over things and always told her children and grandchildren "you can't take it with you to Heaven." Her legacy of "food and fellowship" will forever live on. This lifelong motto was lived out with a generous and joyful heart.

Cathy lived to serve and possessed a warmth that drew others in. Everyone felt comfortable and genuinely welcomed in her presence and in her home. Her journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, optimism, and an unwavering faith in Jesus Christ.

Her passing has left a giant void in the hearts of many, but Cathy's life was a blessing to all. May we carry forth her legacy and let our lights shine bright for Christ and His Heavenly Kingdom.

Cathy is survived by her husband Orlen Braunschweig; daughter Jessica (Justin) Oosterhouse; daughter Rochelle (Aaron) Syvertsen; daughter Melissa (Joe) Venhuizen; daughter Shanna (Mitchell) Katze; son Jason Braunschweig; 13 grandchildren; six siblings, Edward (Andrea) Thimm of Innsbruck, Austria; William (Kristine) Thimm of Rubicon; Ann (Tom) Santy of Fond du Lac; Monica (Larry) Kreilkamp of Rubicon; Ronald (Barbara) Thimm of Hartford; and Lucinda Thimm-Jurado (Jay Jurado) of Madison; 21 nieces & nephews, 43 great nieces & nephews, Aunt Laverne Geiger and Uncle Albert Peters, as well as many extended family and friends.

Cathy was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Mary Thimm; her sister, Linda Davis; one nephew; one great-nephew; and her 2 aunts/sisters, Jean Peters and Joan Knetzger.

Family and friends are invited to attend a Celebration of Life on Friday, July 18 at East Friesland New Covenant Church (N8879 E Friesland Road - Randolph, WI 53956) with visitation hours from 12:30-2:30 p.m. The service will begin at 2:30. Dinner and fun desserts to follow.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Randolph Christian School at https://www.randolphchristian.org/giving or mailed to: 457 N. 2nd Street in Randolph WI, 53956.

I´m so sorry to see Cathy transition to heaven so early. She and I were coworkers together in Portage as court reporters. She was very generous with me in sharing some of her brief forms of shorthand to make writing go faster. She was in business for herself and her business partner before I even graduated from college having studied court reporting.
When she came to Portage, she brought her generous and happy spirit, her love for baking and cooking by bringing delicious food to many potluck meals we had.
She was a dedicated court reporter for the profession and she will be missed by many of us who worked along side her at the courthouse. I pray that her husband and family are comforted by the loving memories she helped create and the joy she found in Christ. You can all be proud of all she accomplished in her lifetime.
With love, Margie Kurtz

Cathy was one of my Thimm cousins and I remember going to her parents farm for many gatherings that her parents hosted. Many of my family pictures taken growing up were at those events! It was interesting to read of her family of 5 kids and many grandchildren...She was truly blessed. I'm always happy my brother Roger keeps us informed of Thimm fanily news.

As a teacher to her grandchildren, she was always a light and a warm presence that came in my room. Kathy was one of the first memories that stood out for me when coming to RCS. She made this great salad at an event and offered the recipe. I felt like I had known her for years. She always had a smile and a warm, positive greeting. I have so immensely enjoyed teaching her grandkids because they are a reflection of her. They always speak so fondly of their grandma and asked us to pray for her. I will miss seeing her around RCS, but so rejoicing with her that she is home!
