Catherine Melissa Geddis made her peaceful transition from this life in 2025.
Born in Montclair, New Jersey in 1952, Catherine was a trailblazer from an early age. In 1960, she helped integrate the Holy Name of Jesus School, later continuing her education at Marylawn of the Oranges academy, an all-girls high school known for its academic rigor. She went on to graduate from Montclair State University, setting the stage for an accomplished professional journey.
Catherine began her career at the Children's Television Workshop, where she worked in the archives during the pioneering years of educational programming. She later transitioned into higher education administration, serving with distinction in Human Resources leadership roles at several prestigious institutions, including Princeton University, Barnard College, and Swarthmore College.
A lifelong learner and scholar, Catherine held a master's degree in library science and had completed all but her dissertation toward a Ph.D. in Theology. Her intellectual curiosity was matched only by her love of art, travel, and culture. She explored destinations across the globe and was a devoted admirer of contemporary artistry, particularly the creative works and contributions of American, African, Asian, and Caribbean artists.
Catherine is survived by her beloved wife and partner of 23 years, Yvonne Branchcomb, her daughter Alexis and son Robert. She is also survived by her sister Roberta Geddis her nieces and grandniece and nephews. She also leaves behind her stepchildren Phillip Branchcomb and Taylor Branchcomb, and her sister-in-law Sylvia LaRue Branchcomb.
Catherine will be remembered for her sharp wit, her hearty laugh, and her unwavering authenticity. Beneath her no-nonsense demeanor was a deep well of love, loyalty, and compassion for those fortunate enough to know her.
She was a force - brilliant, bold, and unapologetically herself - and she will be deeply missed by all who loved her. Visitation will be held on Monday, October 27, 2025 at Trinity Church, 33 Mercer St., Princeton, NJ 08540 from 11am-12pm with a funeral service at 12pm.
Burial will be on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 in St. Mary's Cemetery, 114 Sprain Rd., Yonkers, NY 10710 at 11am.
