Geddis, Margaret (Margie) May 12, 1951 – June 23, 2025
Margie was a devoted daughter, cherished sister, beloved aunt and friend to all. Predeceased by her loving parents, Robert M. and Margaret M. (nee Jamison), she filled the lives of everyone around her with joy and unwavering love.
Margie had a passion for the simple pleasures that brightened her days – listening to music on her transistor radio, receiving daily phone calls from her sister Beth, savoring a meal at restaurants or the nightly dinner with her housemates, going to workshop and program, getting her nails painted and a fresh haircut at the hair salon. Above all, she cherished her time with her sisters and nephew, treasuring those moments more than anything. A true social butterfly, Margie's spirit could light up a room and in her younger days she would dance the night away at Elwyn get togethers.
Raised in Southwest Philadelphia, Margie's relationship with Elwyn spanned a half century. Beginning at the West Philadelphia workshop, she later joined the Landsdowne workshop, moved to the residential program on the campus at McCabe Hall in 1995 and finally transitioned to the Community on 2nd Ave in Media. Elwyn, a leading nonprofit dedicated to services for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, afforded Margie a space where she thrived, growing through each chapter of her life.
Through her decades long involvement, Margie brought her trademark joy and resilience to each program and person she encountered. Her courage in facing and overcoming physical setbacks was nothing short of inspirational. She lived each day with strength, showing us what it truly means to persevere.
Margie is survived by her devoted sisters, Bobbi Geddis (John Hannon), Beth Ferrell (Buddy) and her beloved nephew Robert Geddis-Hannon- each of whom she adored deeply.
Margie taught us all to be better people. She showed us that kindness matters, that true strength comes from within, and that life is enriched through love, compassion and the bonds we share. Her memory will continue to guide us toward greater empathy and connection.
There is a new angel in heaven and her name is "Margie".
Your light will forever shine in our hearts.
