Catherine (Kakie) Haack passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, on March 1, 2026. She was 97 years old. Catherine was one of eleven children born to Alice and Harry Hoy in
Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. She is survived by her children, Jack Hickey (Mary Beth), Peggy Gallagher (Kevin), Colleen Maier (Don), Bill Hickey (Michele), and Jim Hickey (Nancy); grandchildren, Patrick, Matthew, Kelly, Christy, Philip, Dan, Leanne, Bill Jr., Mike, Carl, Kimmie, Carly, and Jimmy and 15 great-grandchildren. Catherine is preceded in death by her husbands, William Hickey and Henry Haack; grandson, Douglas Greene; and her 10 siblings.
Catherine left behind a legacy defined by family, devotion, service, and a deep appreciation for the simple joys of life. She cherished every moment spent with family and friends, and her presence brought warmth, laughter, and a sense of belonging to all who knew her.
Catherine was a proud graduate of St. Matthew's High School in Conshohocken and an active member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Knights of Columbus, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed to community life. Catherine had a spirited competitive streak, especially when playing cards, a pastime she enjoyed throughout her life.
While raising her five children, Catherine dedicated herself to supporting young people and strengthening her community. She served as a Girl Scout Leader, helped launch an after school reading program at St. Patrick's School, and balanced these commitments while working nearly three decades at Montgomery Hospital-first as a telephone operator and later in a variety of administrative roles. Her work ethic, steadiness, and kindness left a lasting impression on colleagues and patients alike.
Her faith was central to her life. Catherine was deeply involved in her parish, participating in the Senior Group, helping plan trips and events, assisting with Bingo and Christmas bazaars, and serving for many years as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion, bringing comfort and companionship to the homebound. She also led weekly Bible readings at Shannondell, offering connection and reflection to residents there.
Catherine found joy in traveling, especially to Ireland and on river cruises and trips shared with her siblings and friends. She treasured vacations at the Jersey Shore, where time with family became a cherished tradition. In her quieter moments, she loved reading-particularly books with rich historical backgrounds-and she delighted in every moment spent with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren, who were the light of her life.
Catherine's legacy is one of generosity, steadfast love, and a life lived in service to others. Her memory will continue to guide and inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Relatives and friends are invited to Catherine's Life Celebration on Friday, March 6, 2026, from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's Church, 714 DeKalb St,
