She was born April 18, 1948 in Springfield, Missouri the daughter of Carl and Reta (Sanders) King. On June 12, 1970 in Ash Grove, Missouri she was united in marriage to Jerry Harter, who survives. Also surviving are one son, Stephen Harter and his wife Kristen of Marietta, Georgia and two grandchildren, Max and Sam.
Preceding her in death were her parents; one brother, Jimmy C. King and one sister-in-law, Alice King.
Cathy grew up and attended school in Ash Grove, Missouri graduating from Ash Grove High School. She later attended Southwest Missouri State College earning a bachelor's in education. Cathy and Jerry moved to this area in 1974. She taught business classes at Exeter High School in Exeter, Missouri for 33 years from where she retired in 2012. Cathy was an excellent cook and enjoyed sewing. She was very involved with school and church activities. Cathy was a member of Wheaton Southern Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 6, 2024 at Wheaton Southern Baptist Church in Wheaton, under direction of McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton. Pastor Paul Wahlert and Reverend Jerry Francisco will conduct the services. Burial will be at Rocky Comfort Cemetery in Rocky Comfort, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:00 P.M. Monday at McQueen Funeral Home in Wheaton.
Contributions may be made to The Gideons International in memory of Cathy.

She was my business teacher at Exeter High School. She was a great teacher and I learned so much from her that I use every day. She gave me advice when we became co-workers. She was so easy to talk to about anything. She touched so many lives!

Mrs. Harter was very kind and helpful to me, as I began my teaching career at Exeter. What I will remember the most, was her dedication to the teaching profession and her standards of achievement. What a wonderful person and friend. Thank you Mrs. Harter, for teaching me too.

Always enjoyed our visits with Cathy and Jerry. She would often text us "When are you coming up again?" I wish we would have visited with her more...like most things in life, we never know when it will be the last time.
