Catherine E. Hegeman

Catherine E. Hegeman, age 94, of Medford, NJ, passed away on December 19, 2024.
Catherine was born in Lake Placid, New York on July 30, 1930, to William H. and Mary C. McDonald. She grew up there, enjoying the view of Mt. Marcy from her backyard, and loved figure skating at the rink. After becoming valedictorian of her high school class, she earned her teaching degree at Cornell University, and taught Home Economics in Lake Placid High School and Nanuet High School in New York state, then Family and Consumer Sciences at Shawnee High School in Medford, NJ. until her retirement.
She married David M. Hegeman, with whom she raised two children, Stephen and Mary Beth, and traveled throughout the United States and to several foreign countries. After David's death in 1994, she maintained an active social life, attending concerts and plays, continued to travel, and volunteered within her parish of St. John Neumann, as well as at Catholic Charities and Delanco Emergency Services. After moving to Medford Leas Continuing Care Facility in 2013, she married David Lewis, who predeceased her.
Catherine is survived by her son, Stephen and his wife, Carmel, her granddaughter Devon and her husband, Eric Erickson, and their three sons, Declan, Rowan, and Fionn; her grandson Matthew and his wife, Monica (Konsicki); her daughter Mary Beth, her grandson Michael Gnoffo and his wife Ashley (Martin), and their daughter, Hannah, and son Miles; and her grandson Anthony Gnoffo. She was fortunate to enjoy close and loving extended family relationships, including nieces, Nancy Skahen, Suzanne Jacobs, and Linda Conneely, nephew Joseph Provo, and sister-in-law, Edwina Leveroni (husband Louis and daughter Sherry). She cherished her dear friends, Betty Hunkins (Lake Placid, NY), Lois DeBrock (Arvada, CO), and Dessa McCleery (Moorestown, NJ).
A funeral mass will be held at a later date at St. Agnes Church, followed by her burial in St. Agnes Cemetery in Lake Placid, NY.
